I am the school newspaper's facilitator. We are using a blog format (wordpress). We are worried about safety issues. Is there a way to have the blog only accessible through our school's portal page (which requires a log-in)? Or if I upgrade to a premium package does each user have to create a log-in and password of their own? I am afraid that this will discourage users from reading the school newspaper.
The blog I need help with is chasecourant.wordpress.com.
1) not on WordPress.com, although you CAN make the blog private and only allow access to certain people whom you invite. To invite more than 35 people, however, will require an inexpensive paid upgrade.

I don't understand the idea of publishing and trying to keep things a secret at the same time. Could you explain your safety fears in a little more detail? it is unlikely you're publishing anything that could be used for blackmail, I'm assuming. I don't understand how "welcome our new History teacher" and "Football season looking awesome!" could constitute a risk to your students, your staff, or your readers.

For that it would be better it you hosted your blog yourself (on your school's server) so that it is accessible through your school's intranet.
Having a blog hosted here, even if you block access to search engines, people would still be able to read it through the global tags/categories pages...
Hosting the blog on your intranet, it'd be the best way to go.
