Search blog by tags

  1. I am new to wordpress so I don't know if this is common or something just not possible. When I use the search function on my blog and I type in a known tag for one of my posts nothing appears. It just says no post found. Is it possible to find specific posts by tags? Right now only my categories are working correctly. However if I click on a tag from the tag cloud it works correctly. Is is possible to add tags in the search engine and not only search by categories? That is the purpose of tags after all. Thank you.

  2. Here's an example url for the wordpresss.com tag/category pages - please click it. http://wordpress.com/tags/cars
Now change the last word to any other "tag" or "category" and then search.

You can also use Google blog search in that example you would use this format (note the lack of space following the colon) cars site:wordpress.com
    cars site:wordpress.com

  3. No this is searching within my own blog. I am talking about searching for specific posts in my own blog. I am not looking to find other blogs. I want to know if it is possible to search for specific posts on my blog by typing in the name of tags in the search bar IN MY BLOG.

  4. Is it possible to find specific posts by tags?

If you have a wordpress.com blog then please read this http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/09/21/the-difference-between-tags-and-categories/
The short answer to your question is "no".

Lastly note that there are other forum threads with regard to the unhappiness bloggers feel regarding how the tags do or don't work.

  6. > I want to know if it is possible to search for specific posts on my blog by typing in the name of tags in the search bar IN MY BLOG.

    NO.

built-in WP search doesn't look for Cats, Tags, Comments, and Pages.

you can only have a link to the Google Custom Search box (or similar services) on your sidebar. and that's all, sorry.

  7. I am using wordpress.org I don't know if that matters. I reposted this on the correct site.

  8. Thanks for advising us that you were in the wrong forum.
