Searching Tags

  1. I'd like to search for tags, but unless they're listed on the "currently popular tags" list, I can't find a way to search who is posting to a specific tag. For example, my blog is on health insurance. I'd like to find others posting to "health care reform." That's never going to make the most popular list, but for me it would be useful. I'm sure there's an obvious way to do this, but this newbie can't figure it out.
    Thanks

  2. Every Category (tag) that a wordpress blogger creates on their blog and then assigns to a post results in that post appearing on a wordpress global tags page(s). If you got to the top of this forum and click "Tags" you will find them all.
As the Categories created and assigned to all posts is at the discretion of bloggers who create them they may not be using the same terms that you expect them to use. Hence you must use creative search technique.
Example: Suppose I was looking for information on Canadian provincial health care insurance.
I could type in Canadian health care insurance and get nothing. I could type in health care insurance and get nothing. I could type in provincial health care insurance and get nothing. I could type in British Columbia Health Care Insurance and get nothing. But if I type in BCMed I may get lots of posts made in many different blogs.

P.S. I really don't know what you mean by this "... but unless they're listed on the "currently popular tags" list, I can't find a way to search who is posting to a specific tag ..."

Edit: This tag brings up no entries at all http://wordpress.com/tags/healthcarereform and neither does this one http://wordpress.com/tags/healthinsurance so I conclude you have not created these Categories on your own blog and have not assigned them to posts in your blog, and that no other wordpress.com blogger has done those things either.

  3. akatz -- timethief is right, but let me add this: To search you can click the "tags" link at the top of this page (or other pages), and you'll come to a page with this URL:

    http://wordpress.com/tags/

In your browser address field, after the last slash, just type in any tag you want to see if anyone has made a post using that tag.

  4. @ growthmadness
    Thanks for your excellent addition.

  5. TT - No charge. ;)

  6. Thanks to you both. I get the tagging concept now. And growthmad's solution is simple.

  7. One more note for folks stumbling across this thread -- it's also helpful to separate words with a hypen to see if a tag uses multiple words. So while http://wordpress.com/tags/individualhealthinsurance gets no results, because no one is using "individualhealthinsurance" as a tag,
http://wordpress.com/tags/individual-health-insurance does because someone (me) is using "individual health insurance".

  8. Thanks so much for the update and for the tip. :)
