   Hello, I don't understand the WP.com documentation on sending trackbacks and haven't seen an answer on the forum that helps. It says, "Go to the post on the other person’s blog and look for the ‘Trackback URI’ or similar."

   Is Trackback URI actually an I or does it mean URL? Where do you find this on the other blog's post? Will it not work to just put the post's URL into the Trackback box on the Edit post page?

   Also, if you forget to include the trackback link before you publish, will it still work if you insert it afterward and update?

   I believe trackback URIs are generally found on Six Apart blogs (and possibly on Blogger, though I'm not sure). URIs are slightly different URL scheme than the standard URL; however, as far as I know, they are interchangeable. So if you're copying someone's content and you wish to provide them trackbacks, (means, you want them to know that you're linking them at your blog) than you could look for a URI string if they have one, or you can just copy their blog post's URL in your trackback field.

   You can set your blog up here Dashboard > Settings ? Discussion
   Discussion Settings
   Default article settings
   ___Default article settings Attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the article.
   ___Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks.)

   Also on any post just below the editor box you can see two boxes below the editor box that will override those setting on individual posts.
   Trackbacks
   Send trackbacks to:
   (Separate multiple URLs with spaces)

   Trackbacks are a way to notify legacy blog systems that you’ve linked to them. If you link other WordPress sites they’ll be notified automatically using pingbacks, no other action necessary.

   Discussion
   __ Allow trackbacks and pingbacks on this page.

   Questions:

   Will it not work to just put the post's URL into the Trackback box on the Edit post page?

   Yes, but I don't bother on my posts. As I have selected the Discussion page options above the software will send them out.

   Also, if you forget to include the trackback link before you publish, will it still work if you insert it afterward and update?

   Yes. :)

   Thanks you! So if I have the default options checked under settings, I don't have to do anything!!!! Terrific. Sorry to be so clueless. :)
