SEO for WordPress.com

  1. Does anyone know if there are any SEO tools for use with WordPress.com?

The blog I need help with is michaelselmer.wordpress.com.

  2. Note that my reply is a serious and not cheeky one. The primary tool for applying on page SEO to your WordPress.com blog is between your ears. We cannot access metadata. All of our blogs have sitemaps.

Your blog is enabled with just about everything you need to be super-searchable. This includes an XML sitemap, which you can access at yourblogname.wordpress.com/sitemap.xml.

No need to do anything extra on your end. The sitemap file included with your blog is available to every search engine that supports the protocol, including Google, Yahoo!, Bing, Ask.com, and others. http://en.support.wordpress.com/sitemaps/#xml-sitemaps-for-search-engines

There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs and we cannot upload plugins into our blogs. Consequently we have to learn white hat basic SEO practices and apply them to our content in our blogs.

  3. Thanks. As you can probably tell I am: 1- a new blogger, 2- a writer, not a techie, 3. haven't spent hours watching every tutorial.

Is there an SEO for Dummies? (Or at least people who don't have the time to spend learning all the ins and outs?)

Maybe a very clear tutorial somewhere that focuses on the basics?

  4. There are clear tutorials provided by several sites for example there is a Google Webmasters guide and Bing has webmaster's guides too. This may be a good starting point for you > Two SEO Videos for Bloggers You will also find other artcles under "SEO Tips" on this page.

  5. Thanks to both of you!

  6. You're welcome. :)

  7. You be welcome & good luck
