I had a discussion about this in a Support forum and the 'Happiness Engineer' suggested that I also raise this in the ideas forum.
I think people who are attracted to WordPress.com (because they don't necessarily want to be 'techies'/don't have time for background site maintenance/solving plug-in conflicts via .org) are also very aware nowadays of the need for SEO tools and the ability to monitor visitor statistics closely via Google Analytics. Their clients expect that sort of functionality and detailed statistics too.
I really need the ability to add meta tags such as meta descriptions to help my site rank well, and also to help influence search snippets (I note that descriptions often appear as snippets too) so I need an SEO facility (like some of the plugins offered by .org such as WordPress SEO by Yoast).
Does anyone else feel the same? I am reluctantly realising I may have to do a .org website instead, unless WordPress.com can add some of this functionality.
