Serious Problems Uploading Theme

    I have been trying to upload "The Night Watch" theme which I found in wordpress a few weeks ago. I'm supposed to change over our site and re-organized all of our information before the Christmas holidays so that my people can inspect everything before the new year.

    Unfortunately, I've run into several problems. First, when I tried to upload it, I found out that I needed to go to my Admin bar and locate my "Install Theme" sub-tab. It isn't there. Then I went elsewhere and found out that I needed to have the "File Manager" application. Which also wasn't there. I later learned that this was a plugin that needed to be installed through the "Plugins" menu. Which, shockingly...wasn't there. Now, I figured out that I could upload the file through FTP. But it still had to placed in the "File Manager", which again, wasn't there.

    So basically, I have no way to fix this. At least that I know of. I purchased a software upgrade in anticipation that I would be able to use this theme. I have two weeks to get this job finished. The theme upload should have been completed yesterday. So I'm already behind. I sent a message directly to wordpress, but I haven't heard back.

    I don't know if these problems are occurring because of the version of WordPress that I am using, mainly because I can't even locate on my site the version tags.

    I recently came over from Blogger, so I am new to WordPress. If anyone can help, you're going to have to walk me through.

    http://theinvisiblecon.wordpress.com/ is a WordPress.COM blog. External themes cannot be uploaded to those: they are only for WordPress.ORG blogs. If you want to use that theme, you're going to need to buy hosting, install software from WordPress.org, and run it on your own including all tech support and updates. We've got about 200 themes here on the Dashboard->Appearance page, and you can usually find one you like.

    WordPress.COM is not the same as WordPress.ORG. You have a WordPress.COM blog, which is hosted here and for that reason has security restrictions limiting what you can or cannot upload. You cannot upload external themes.

    How do I get a WordPress.org site? And how much does that cost? I'm really sorry. This is a bit confusing for me. Most of the people involved are WordPress users and wanted to use this platform. I'm accustomed to blogger.

    If you're accustomed to Blogger you'll find WordPress.com easier to use. WordPress.org is basically a full-on website for which you have to do all the tech support yourself.

    Actually, I think I may have found a solution. There is a very similar WP.com theme called Hum. If I can kill the sidebar and do some editing with the CSS, I can probably obtain the results I need. Thanks for everything.
