   How do I make my template first page my HOME page, and how do I create the link for a reader to return to the HOME page from anywhere in the blog?

   There is a Home link (custom link) ready for you to use when you create a custom menu. http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/

   I've just added 'Home' as an item on your navigation menu. You can manage your menu on this page.

   To create a static front page please follow the steps in this guide.
