showing japanese characters

  1. This isn't about me, it is about someone else. I recently worked on moving a Japanese language blog from Mambo to WordPress. The characters did not display correctly in the WordPress posts. The dashboard and links needed to remain in English, but post content was to appear in Japanese. It took me forever to find out how to display the Japanese characters properly, so I am posting this. It should work for any language, but I haven't tried it. Here is what you do:
    edit the config.php file and delete or comment out the line of code that says:define('DB_CHARSET', 'utf8');

    That's all. Took me days to discover it on a wordpress developers site. I wish I could remember where. The forum did not help me at all.

    The blog I need help with is karlazz.wordpress.com.

  2. This is a duplicate that was answered in this other thread: http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/japanese-posts-to-display-proper-characters?replies=3 .
