Sidebar color

  1. I am trying to customize the colors on my blog and can only go so far because when I change the link colors, the sidebar color automatically changes to a much darker color making it difficult to see the links. When I change ANY of the colors: links, accent or headings, the sidebar immediately turns dark gray which I don't like. Please help me learn how to change the color of the side bar. Thanks.

    I have the Highwinds theme.

  2. Hey there,
    It can be done with CSS if you have the Custom Design Upgrade.

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/

    I’m not sure if the Custom Design upgrade is for me. Can I try before I buy?

    Yes! If you haven’t purchased the upgrade yet, go to Appearance → Customize, click the Custom Design menu link, and click the Try Now button. The CSS panel has an editor where you can paste CSS code and preview the changes in the live preview area on the left. The CSS changes you try before purchasing the upgrade will only be visible to you, so you can test and edit to your heart’s content.

    If you’d like to preview your custom colors, fonts, or CSS with a different theme, but without changing the appearance of your live blog, you can use the Live Preview link below any theme on the Appearance → Themes page in your blog dashboard.

  3. I do have the upgrade, I just can't figure out how to change the sidebar color. Is there a code or something I have to input?

  4. I'll tag this for staff assistance with CSS. Please subscribe to this thread so you'll know when they assist you.

    Best wishes! =)

  5. Hi there!

    I've gone ahead and added the following CSS code to your Custom CSS panel:

    a {
    color: red;
    }

    #secondary {
    background: #ccc;
    }

    The first part turns all of your links to red while the second part sets your sidebar's background color to #ccc, which is a light gray. Feel free to experiment with the color values until you achieve your desired look.

  6. The help you provided was amazing. Thank you SO much. My blog is looking much better and I am finally able to take advantage of the upgrade.

    Can you also help me with changing the Accent 1color? When I change this color and hit save, it changes the side bar color to the dark gray. The coding for that isn't in the CSS box where you added the others.

    The follow me button and drop down menus are also still the default blue. Is there anyway to change these?

    Once again, thank you so much for your help.

  7. Hi! I went ahead and changed the Accent colors to #5ca5e4. :) If you'd like to change these to something else, note that you can click on the "You can also pick your own color." link to pick your own colors from a color spectrum. Please let me know if you have additional questions. Thanks!

    I'm also having trouble with this issue, I'd like to learn how to do this in CSS.

    All CSS editing is theme specific editing. You have a different theme. Please use this link http://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization#postform so you can copy and paste your text into a thread that will appear in the CSS Forum where you will get the help you need.
