Sidebar on home page

  1. Hi! I'm really new to this & don't even know enough to know how to ask this question. I'm using the Tarski theme. Is it possible to have the sidebar visible only on the main page and not on the single post view page? On my shorter posts, the comments box is a long way down, and people have told me they think the comments are disabled. Thank you.

  2. Not really. It's doable but only if you were able to edit the themes. We can't do that here since we're on a shared environment and you would be editing the themes for everybody who used them.

  3. Gotcha. That answers my question and keeps me from trying to dig through all these topics. Thank you!

  4. We can't do that here since we're on a shared environment and you would be editing the themes for everybody who used them.

    WoW,

My question answered before I even wrote it down..what a place..wheeeeeeeeee!

  5. I know my question has been resolved, but I guess there was actually a Part Two to my question: are ANY of the themes set up to allow the sidebar to remain only on the main page and not on the single post view page? (Like I said before, I don't even know enough yet to know "how and what" to ask!) Thanks!

Yes I do believe there are but can't remember which ones off the top of my head. You will find theme reviews at this link. They outline the features and known bugs so you can make an informed choice. http://engtech.wordpress.com/tools/wordpress/wordpress-theme-reviews/

  7. Thank you! I just wanted to be sure I wasn't wasting my time trying to find something that actually didn't exist. I'm still trying to learn how to muddle my way around all the tech-speak. I appreciate your help!

  8. You're welcome and because you are new I'd like to offer you these basic resources http://wordpress.com/forums/topic.php?id=5257&replies=19
And this will help with the set up and configuring of widgets.
    Happy blogging :)

  9. Bless you! Widgets are another source of confusion for me! Thank you!

  10. WOW! Thanks. I mean, you're welcome {she blushes}.

  11. Just finding this thread. Kubrick and Sapphire come to mind as themes that don't display the sidebar on the internal pages.

Goota admit that I don't like the missing sidebar but I understand that some folks do. :)

    Hope this helps,
    -drmike

  12. noted :)

  13. drmike, I'd actually prefer the sidebar on all my pages, but not having something to indicate that the comments box is way down at the bottom of the page on the single post view is annoying. There is nothing around the post at all that says "comments" or indictates that there is a box below. People keep telling me that they're unable to make comments to my post. I know the theme can't be changed, and I do understand that, but (gee, I'm beginning to sound like a whiner) is there anyway that a comments link could be placed at the top of the post, or a "comments below" statement or any such creature on themes such as Tarski...and others like that? Any suggestions? Thanks!

  14. People keep telling me that they're unable to make comments to my post

I'm more concerned about this. Do you know why they're not being able to leave comments? Are they getting an error of some sort?

As to the location of the comment box, that's pretty much standard for all blogging systems, not just wordpress.

  15. drmike,

It's not that they cannot make comments; it's that on the post view page, they do not see anything to indicate that my blog accepts comments...no link or anything. They just have to scroll way down to the bottom of the page (I have a long sidebar!). The ones who have contacted me have told me that they didn't realize there was a comment box at the very bottom. That's all.

I resolved this myself. I really like the Tarski theme, but I switched to the Kubrick theme. Not my favorite, but with no sidebar on the post view page, the comments box is "right there." Thanks for your help and your concern! :)
