Sidekick theme - problem viewing via iPad

    Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can help with a problem I'm having with the Sidekick theme.

It's listed as a "responsive" theme and should be designed with mobile devices in mind, but when I view my blog from an iPad the pages don't fit the iPad screen and I'm missing text on the right-hand side of the page. This is the case when I use the iPad in both its portrait and landscape orientations. I'm not able to scroll across the blog page, either, so can't access the text at all. Any ideas how I can change this so the blog views beautifully on an iPad?

The blog in question is nickyellis.org.uk

    Thanks so much in advance,
    Kate

The blog I need help with is nickyellis.org.

  2. Responsive width means the layout adapts depending on the size of the device being used to view your site. When responsive width themes are viewed on mobiles sidebars appear below the posts in order to provide as much space as possible for reading.

If you have enabled the mobile theme here > Appearance > Mobile then disable it.

    Hi timethief,

Thanks for your reply, and sorry to take so long to come back to you.

I've disabled the mobile option in the blog's settings, but am still having a problem viewing the site on my iPad and text to the right-hand side of the screen is still not visible. There are no sidebars, so I can't scroll, and when I touch the screen to move around the page I'm only able to scroll up and down to see more content, not side to side, so the content to the right-hand side of the screen is inaccessible.

I've tried to paste in a screen shot, but can't, so sorry that I can't show you the problem, but any further help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks so much,
    Kate

    Hi timethief,

    Thanks for your speedy reply.

I've just checked on the meaning of sidebar, and had understood something different.

So there is a sidebar showing on the right-hand side of each page when viewing the blog on a mobile/tablet, but all this is doing is blocking the page content, so the sidebar covers the last two or three words of each line on each page.

How do I get the text to flow around the sidebar? Or remove it? Or even just view the text underneath it?

    Many thanks,
    Kate

  6. Im having the same issue. My sidebar is not showing

  7. Here's the answer found in the them description:

Sidekick is a Superhero child theme without the bells and whistles. It’s a clean, widget-free, single-column theme that looks great with any content, but excels at displaying panoramic featured images. http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/sidekick/

    Hi Timethief,

Thanks for your reply. But I'm not running widgets on the blog I have a problem with.

As I can't post a screenshot to this forum I've added one into the blog on a new page - please see http://nickyellis.org/ipad/ - and this shows a screenshot from my iPad showing that the text on the right-hand side of the page is obscured. Perhaps you can have a look at this to help clarify the problem?

    Thanks so much,
    Kate

  13. Thank you for the confirmation.

  14. Hi Kate!

I checked your site out and I can confirm there's a bug with the layout when viewing your site on the iPad. I've submitted a request to have this fixed, but I don't have an exact date or time when this will be completed.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention - I'll respond again once this is fixed.

In the meantime, let me know if you have any questions.

    Hi guys,

I just wondered if there had been any progress on this?

    Thank you,
    Kate

  17. Hi there!

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you! I believe it has been fixed as I just visited your site nickyellis.org on both Safari and Chrome for the iPad and the word wrap issue seems to have been fixed.

You might need to clear your browser's cache - here are instructions on how to clear the cache for Chrome and Safari on the iPad:

Let me know if you still see this problem.

    Thank you!
