Sitemap not showing in google

  1. I checked out the post http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2013/03/22/seo-on-wordpress-com/

In there it says my site map will show by entering debtdebs.com/sitemap.xml but I do not get any results.

    I also tried debtdebs.wordpress.com/sitemap.xml.

I have recently registered for Google WebMaster tools and I know WordPress says they supply a site map but I wanted to verify mine is available/working.

I'm trying to figure out why my site has no Google rating on this summary of Top Finance Blogs
    http://www.modestmoney.com/top-finance-blogs/?page_no=1&limit=300&sortby=&sort_order=
which is why I'm researching all of this SEO info.

    Thanks for your help.

The blog I need help with is debtdebs.com.

  2. Hi,

Try 'your website address/feed << that works for one of my WordPress Blogs for Google's Webmaster Tools / Sitemap. (Most do use the /sitemap.xml though)

    @debtdebs
This is the URL http://debtdebs.com/sitemap.xml and there is an issue so I'll tag this thread for a Staff follow-up. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

  4. Thanks to you both!

Yes, I did put the http:// at the front.

  5. Hey there!

Can you kindly tell me the error message you get after submitting the sitemap on Google Webmaster? I was able to submit mine very recently without problems, here's a screenshot:

Can you share a screenshot of what you're seeing as well? Click on Crawl > Sitemaps and take a screenshot.

Would be best to contact the site's owner about the SEO factors that affect their rankings:

Looking forward to your reply. Thanks!

  6. Sorry, I've been busy and have not seen this feedback.

First, my problem was that when I typed http://debtdebs.com/sitemap.xml nothing was displayed.
This appears to be resolved because now I see what is in this attachment.

    http://debtdebs.com/?attachment_id=1285

According to the article linked at the very top of this thread from WordPress, I do not need to do anything to have my site map loaded to google.

However when I look at google analytics, this is what I see.

    http://debtdebs.com/?attachment_id=1286

I can't even see where to load up a site map on Google Analytics. How did you submit yours to get the results you show above?

    Thanks for your support!

  7. One further note, I just noticed that the site showed in Google Analytics as this:

    http://www.debtdebs.com

    I changed it to
    http://debtdebs.com

I'm wondering if this will make a difference.

  8. I also just found this post which says:

    Can I use Google Analytics?
No, Google Analytics cannot be used on WordPress.com blogs at this time.

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/

So what's the deal here, WordPress.com?

  9. Hi there!

Sorry for the confusion. Google has another service called Google Webmaster Tools that allows you to submit your sitemap to the Google search engine. Here's our guide on implementing it on your site:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/

Google Analytics is a different service that lets your track your visitors similar to our Stats feature. However, at this time it cannot be used on WordPress.com for security reasons.

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you. Thanks!

  10. Thank you ... I confused Google Webmaster with Google Analytics. Sorry about that.

I had already verified my site previously.

However there was no site map submitted. This makes me question
the article http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2013/03/22/seo-on-wordpress-com/ saying you don't need to do anything.

So I went ahead and submitted my site map successfully.

Thanks very much for your help!
You can close this ticket now :-)

  11. No problem! :)

  12. Hi debtdebs.. thought I would just mention, you may find it of interest.. I recently loaded 'sitemeter' on my blog, for a little more insight into people viewing my blog, it is pretty 'in depth' and can give you statistics such as detailed reporting, a clear picture of who is visiting your site, how they found you, how long they 'browsed' your blog, both 'entry' and 'out clicks' where they came from, (location) and a lot more.

I find it interesting to keep up to date on what's 'popular' at my blog from time to time...

    All the best,
    Sasha

  13. FYI I am also having a problem with submitting a sitemap to Google. It goes fine for http://drinkscoaster.com but for my older blog of http://raincoastermedia.com it says:

We encountered an error while trying to access your Sitemap. Please ensure your Sitemap follows our guidelines and can be accessed at the location you provided and then resubmit.
    1
General HTTP error: 404 not found
    HTTP Error: 404

As well, although raincoaster.com has been here for eight years and hosted on the same domain for what, seven? Google has no record of a sitemap for it.

  14. Hi raincoaster,

General HTTP error: 404 not found HTTP Error: 404

This could mean that you entered the wrong Sitemap URL. Is this the URL you submitted?

    http://raincoastermedia.com/sitemap.xml

Since I could not test your sitemap in my Google Webmaster Tools account, I tried validating it in a couple of validator tools specific for testing sitemaps:

    http://www.validome.org/google/ http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/validate-xml-sitemap.html

Both tools suggest your sitemap is valid. Would you kindly try resubmitting it to Google Webmaster Tools?
