Skimlinks messed up inside code tags (an actual error!)

1. First of all. I know and understand how skimlinks work. This bug-report is not about that. It's about an actual error in skimlinks and code tags.

I write a coding blog. I just happened to read my blog without being logged in, and I noticed that while your skimlinks work fine in normal text, if your algorithms happen to place skimlinks inside a code tag, they will just mess up my coding example.

So, please update your algorithms to NOT place skimlinks inside tags! Please.

Here's an example from my blog post on how it looks like:
<br /> if(hello)<br /> {<br /> hello.sayHello()<br /> log_ln("5 + 2 = ")<br /> log(<span class="skimlinks-unlinked">hello.count(int</span> param1: <span class="skimlinks-unlinked">hello.num</span>, int param2:2))</p> <p> for(uint i = 0; i < 7; i++)<br /> {<br /> hello.createNewTester()<br /> }</p> <p> hello.logTesters<br /> }</p> <p> <span class="skimlinks-unlinked">hello.free</span> //Here we'll free our ref.<br />

Formatting probably got messed up there anyway, but the problem is that the links are not being generated, and you can clearly see the skimlinks-unlinked tags right there in the blog page.

A link to my blog: http://sadesaapuu.wordpress.com

The blog I need help with is sadesaapuu.wordpress.com.

2. Aargh. That just really messed up my formatting in the last post.
The tags I was referring to in the first messed up block are of course the code tags, that I mentioned earlier.

But here's another link to a post on my blog where the issue is clearly visible, if I'm not logged in:

3. Thanks for the report. I'll tag this thread for a Staff follow-up. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

4. Please get rid of this <span class="skimlinks-unlinked"> tags as soon as possible. For how long have these been visible? Horror update. You should roll back immediately.

5. Hi Magnusmontin,

One thing you can try is to place another code tag just outside your code block like so:

<code>
//code here
</code>
6. Then I have to edit all code blocks in all my posts which sounds like a really bad idea...

This is clearly a severe bug that should be fixed immediately.

7. Actually if you search in google: <span class="skimlinks-unlinked"> a lot of wordpress blogs are having the same issue

I'm having the same skimlinks-unlinked issue.

Another new problem is about the language="html" and language="xml" that is causing a CSS rendering problem.

9. Me too!

What I don't understand is that they mess with source code blocks from other people, and now we have to explain what is going on with our broken code blocks. This totally sucks!

10. There are lot of '<span class="skimlinks-unlinked">' tags added to all my blog posts which actually is mis-guiding readers also its messing the code snippets. i request wordpress to resolve this issue as soon as possible. its prety urgent.

somebody already solved or found the solution? Exists a solution?

12. I'm very sorry about the "skimlinks" glitch in folks' code snippets! We're working on a more permanent fix but for now I've applied a temporary workaround to the following sites.

If your site is not on this list, please give me your URL in this thread so we can get you fixed up. Thanks!

sadesaapuu - http://sadesaapuu.wordpress.com/

magnusmontin - http://blog.magnusmontin.net/

julioc182 - http://singletechgames.com/

pikeralpha - http://pikeralpha.wordpress.com/

manthapavan - http://manthapavankumar.wordpress.com/

leandroosiilva - http://terafraps.wordpress.com/

cleversonsacramento - which is your affected site?

13. Hi kathrynwp,

Thanks for your quick response. and here is my
url: manthapavankumar.wordpress.com

14. manthapavan - yup, I already fixed your site earlier. :-) If you're still seeing the extraneous code, just let me know.

15. We've implemented a permanent fix for this issue.

If anyone is still seeing skimlinks interfering with their code, could you please provide a link to a specific post so I can have a look?

Once again, apologies for the bug.

16. Thank you Kathryn, for your care to my pages!
vioannis ( http://varlamis.wordpress.com/ )

17. Thank you! Code tags seem to work normally now.

18. Thank you very much for your care towards the blogs i really admire the work you people has done.now i can see my pages normally.in case i see any thing wrong ill contact you, once again thank you.

19. Has a fix not been rolled out to all blogs?
I'm still getting these skimlinks tags in my code.

Also, does this mean WordPress is now automatically adding skimlinks to all our links....?

20. btw, I'm having issues with blog.nadnerb.co.uk

21. Hi nadnerb33 - blog.nadnerb.co.uk doesn't look like a WordPress.com site, it's being self-hosted on your own host (1&1). You can try posting in the WordPress.org forum if you need help tracking down the culprit: http://wordpress.org/support/

You'll need a free WordPress.org account to post - if you don't already have one, you can register here:
