As my blog grows the amount of categories grow with each post possibly being included in three different types of categories (TIme, Dynasty, Location).
What I am wondering and would like to do is to section off each type instead of hacing a list form.
Can this be done at all - so that I have the different type as a heading with the different categories within the type listed below - or even a drop down box?

I think you may want to create additional Categories in your dashboard http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/#adding-categories-via-the-dashboard Then you can assign the Categories your posts before your publish them. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/#adding-categories-via-the-categories-module You can then create a custom menu http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/ and add your Categories pages as items in it. http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-category-pages
