SoundCloud widget for wordpress.com

  1. Hi,
it would be great if wordpress.com would support soundcloud widgets with a widget shortcode like [soundcloud track="flickermood"]
SoundCloud is arguably the best way to send, receive and distribute music on the web. Its currently very fast-growing community of 25 000+ artists and labels are using soundcloud to get their music out to other producers, fans and music blogs.

Some people call it "Flickr for music", some "cloud services for bands/labels". Here's some coverage:

Here's an example of the embedded SoundCloud flash widget on my (hosted wordpress) blog:

the embed code is a straight-forward flash embed, no special requirements.

    cheers,
    eric [founder and cto, soundcloud.com]

that would be a really nice touch. Hope this happens!

  4. You should contact Automattic directly about this.

  5. @vivianpaige ok, i did this through the support form, but is there maybe a better way?

  6. yes - there is a better way :) There is a link o Automattic at the bottom of the forum. http://automattic.com/ and there is contact info there.

That's the best way to have your idea heard

  7. +1

  8. BTW - all you folks posting your support - it doesn't mean beans unless you are hosted here at wordpress.COM. And none of you has your blog linked in your user name as explained in the sticky at the top of the forum. (Go into your dashboard -> users -> your profile -> then scroll down to 'contact info'. In the spot where it says 'website' fill in the address of your blog and save the changes.
Now... when you comment here and on other blogs, your name will link to your blog. If you do this before you post your request for help, it will allow forum volunteers to be able to help you quicker since they won't have to ask you for a link and wait until you come back to post one.)

I also find it mighty curious that none of you has ever posted in the forums before today.

  9. +1!

  10. +3!

  11. how that you post on your blog?

I BIG + 1 from me. Check out the nightmare I just had with trying to get a different audio player to work:

    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/212195?replies=5

Then I tried out the Soundcloud widget and I finally got my music on my blog properly. If there had been a Soundcloud plugin for WordPress it would have saved me literally a couple days of work.

  13. hiddendriveways - if you are self-hosted, you are in the wrong forum. This forum is for blogs hosted at wordpress.COM.

Gee whiz. Excuse me. I thought this was a thread for people who wanted an integrated Soundcloud player for WordPress.

  15. SoundCloud will not work here on the wordpress.COM free hosting service.

  16. @hiddendriveways - no, this forum is for blogs hosted at wordpress.COM, which is totally different from wordpress.ORG. The original poster specifically says wordpress.COM.

  17. +1 for this! Hopefully wordpress will add the widget...

  19. I hope this widget will come soon.

Doesn't Soundcloud decrease revenue for the artist because of the "sharing" aspect of the format?

I see there is a "buy" option, but the digital store is not a known entity like Itunes or Rhapsody.

  21. @masterclasslady the buy-button can be linked to any mp3-shop, like itunes or amazon. I would say more exposure and virality benefits the artist.

Please integrate the Soundcloud player somehow!!!!

@eric - it's the "sharing" aspect that I find problematic. Currently, Itunes or Amazon give you a limited listen to the track before you download it as a paid digital product.

True, this does not stop people from sending it to others after they have downloaded the track, but the Soundcloud format actually promotes the "sharing" aspect.

Where is this "buy" button? I can't see it when I access the site. The promo video basically talks about sharing your music files - no mention of buying a recorded product.

  24. An artist isn't going to soundcloud anything they didn't want to only sell through commercial avenues.

As an artist/blogger who is sharing their songs with people on soundcloud I am all for this

  25. I'd like to see the SoundCloud widget here on wordpress.com as well.

  26. This looks like a good widget, but I can't see its advantage over the ReverbNation tune widgets, which I'd also really like to see a wordpress.com shortcode for....

  27. I would love to see a SoundCloud integration to use it in my blog!

  28. Why wordpress don't listen to us? It seem so easy to add a widget/...please wordpress, do something!

  29. Hi Eric - maybe someon can approach Matt in one of the WordCamps about this? :)

  30. I saw the soundcloud site. Seemed to be an excellent application. After joining for FREE and uploading four of my Talks in .wav format, I took the html code of 1 and 2 of my Talks that was displayed in SHARE button. When I pasted in the Text widget of my blog, it did appear in the Main Sidebar. (Please see the last two items.) Clicking the link directly takes you to soundcloud site where one can listen or download etc. No player is required in WP.
