Spam keeps getting through on one post

  1. One particular post of mine from over a year ago, keeps getting spam comments slipping through and appearing on the post, about two a day. I mark them as spam each time. With the rest of my posts, it's only very occasionally that one slips through. Is there anything I can do? I don't want to delete that post. The particular post where it is happening is this one - http://vanessa-chapman.com/2012/12/05/love-letters-theyre-not-meant-to-be-funny-but/

The blog I need help with is vanessa-chapman.com.

  2. Two a day - wow! Would that we were all so lucky. Are you aware that many of our blogs get hundreds and even thousands of spam in a single day? Akismet is a learning engine so just mark spam as spam and it will learn to sequester them over time.

  3. Many blogs get hundres and thousands of spam actually getting through and going live on their site each day? Really?! I find that hard to believe. I wasn't talking about all spam that hits my blog and ends up in the spam folders, just the ones that slip through and get published.

I just found it odd that a couple a day are getting through on one particular post, but not others, and wondered whether there was something about that particular post I could do to halt it. But never mind.

  4. No I wasn't kidding. The vast and overwhelming majority of all so-called information on the internet is spam. Over 80% of all so-called comments submitted to .wordpress.com blogs every day are spam. Spam comes in waves. There are robotic programs that post spam and there are human beings who get paid to post spam.

P.S. When you keep getting spam on a single post that usually means you have already approved a spam comment on that post.

  5. I understand of course that there are huge amounts of spam on the internet and huge amounts hitting WordPress every day, and I'm fully aware that there are both robotic programs and human beings who post spam. It's not that I don't understand how much spam there is about or where it comes from, I was merely noting a pattern that seemed unusual on my blog when generally Akismet seems to do a great job of sending it to the spam folders. Anyway, no worries, thank you.

  6. Ifyou continuously get spam on one post, that means one of the comments on that post that has already been approved is spam. Look through the comments carefully and delete or unapprove one and if the spam stops, that was the spam comment. Send it to spam.

  7. Thankyou raincoaster. I have checked through them all and I don't think any of them are spam, they are either from people I know, or people who have proper blogs of their own, but I did notice that within the comments a couple of us talk about spam, so I don't know if spam talk attracts spam! I hope not because I'm doing a blog post about spam today, hehe.
