spelling mistake in URL - how do I correct! Help!

I made a stupid spelling mistake in my blog title/domain name. So I need to change domain name and title, I want to stay with wordpress.com.

It is a new blog only 30 subscribers.

I think I am hosted with wordpress.com, even though I paid Bluehost for the domain name,

How do I move posts, comments everything really?

I am hopeless at techy stuff, do I redirect, move blog or export... I am totally confused!!!

    :( Thank you in advance

The blog I need help with is loosingmylemons.com.

  2. The domain loosingmylemons.com has been registered at WordPress.com for more than a year. Are you referring to this domain name? or a different spelling mistake? Please explain the mistake in more details.

    Thank you !

  3. Thank you for commenting!

Yes it's this blog, even though I registered it quite a while back I have only really started posting during the past few weeks.

The mistake is simply down to the spelling of Losing (I put 2 o's in, duh).
I have gone back to Bluehost and purchased the correct spelling domain name, so now I have http://www.losingmylemons.com as well.

I am unsure of where to go from here, do I export or re-direct blog, and what is the difference anyway!?!

I have also been advised to manually move all of the content over, as there are only 11 posts so far, which is do-able, and then to post a link on the original blog advising subscribers etc...but wouldn’t I lose all of my comments then?

    Thank you in advance!

  4. I see. To map an exiting domain (hosted elsewhere) you can go to Store > Domains on your blog's dashboard and follow the steps there. Please take a look at the following guide before going through the process.

If you prefer hosting your site elsewhere (eg Bluehost), then you can follow this guide on how to export your WordPress.com content.

  5. Okaaaay, I think…

So firstly I need to first register the .com domain name I bought from Bluehost with wordpress.com, which will cost appx $18.00, right?

Then how do I move all of the content, including comments, from the old blog and how do my subscribers follow me?

I feel like such a donut, sorry!

  6. Mapping an existing domain name costs $13 per year. If you decide to keep your blog at WordPress.com, you just need to map the domain: using the steps in the the following guide.

The domain will automatically be covering your existing WordPress.com blog address and you don't need to export any content or subscribers.

  7. Ok! This sounds great.

Although, I only bought the domain name with bluehost, I haven't registered it anywhere and I want to stay with wordpress. Yet still all I have to do is follow the mapping link above?

Do my subscribers simply get redirected to the new blog?

    Thanks again!

  8. kar, if OP goes here here and does a name change, how does that affect content, stats, search results, likes, followers, etc?

    I'm sure how that works.

  9. @loosingmylemons Yep, you can simply map the domain to your blog now, go to Store > Domains on your blog's dashboard and follow the steps there. Please take a look at the following guide before going through the process.

Since you will still use the same blog, but just with a domain covering it, subscribers will stay where they are. They will follow your new domain automatically.

@notawoodpecker In this case she doesn't need a name change. Changing the address will reset stats since they are tracked per domain. Followers, and likes will stick to the site. Search results will update accordingly once the site is crawled by the search engine again.

  11. You're welcome. Let us know how it goes :)

  12. Just a quickie... should I update my primary domain to the new spelling of losingmylemons?

I am in the process of following your instructions, I have paid the $13 fee, but I have now been advised by a freind, to do a http://FTP...

  13. opps, sorry FTP

  14. You can't use FTP at WordPress.com. Your friend is thinking of the significantly different software at wordpress.ORG. Yes, set losingmylemons as your primary domain.

But nothing is loading... does it take a while to configure? :(

    What should I do next?

    Thank you in advance!

  17. It looks like your domain (http://www.losingmylemons.com) is not pointing to WordPress.com name servers yet. Please go to your domain registrar's site and log into the control panel. You will need to update the name servers as below:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

For more information, please visit the help documentation provided by the registrar and our support page:

  18. Ahhhhhhh I've done it! I think that's it, isn't it?

My blog is now at losingmylemons.com and I have changed the title too.

Thank you so, so much you've all made this easy for me, the step by step instructions were excellent!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! xxx

  19. Good job! Note that it generally takes a few days before nameserver changes are fully propagated.

    Cheers :)
