The W3C XHTML validator is reporting 41 errors on your main page.
First, go to settings > writing and select “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” and then click “save changes.”
Next, open the post on your main page in the wordpress editor and make one small change (such as adding a space and then deleting it) and then click “update post.”
Some of the errors that are showing in the validation report are known to cause issues like this. Interestingly in Safari 3 I can see the stat counter widget, but it is offset to the right of the sidebar. In FF 3, the widget does not display.

Thanks very much for the info. The “WordPress should correct feature was already on, but I clicked it and unclicked it and saved it and then made a minor change on the front page — to no avail….
Hmmmm…..

I bet it’s the new version of Firefox. It works, as you say, in Safari — and I just checked an older version of FF aqnd it’s there as well…

I’ve been wondering about the new version of FF, as there have been some sort of weird things popping up since it came out.
I would contact staff with all the details so that they can look into it for you: http://support.wordpress.com/contact/
Also include what version of Windows you are using and whether it is up to date. There are some other issues showing up that may be related to a Windows update.

I went to Firefox, which had this to say:
Q: Why isn’t a page counter or hit counter displayed using Firefox, but it does with IE?
A: That is a Java applet and your plugins list doesn’t show Java as installed.
See JavaI haven’t been able to find how to install the Java applet …

In FF, go to preferences > content, and make sure that “enable javascript” and “enable java” are both checked.
