Stats way off

  1. What is happening with site stats? It continues to work one day and not another. I sure wish we could use an outside stat company if the WordPress one is going to have so much trouble. I've always wondered why the page views and the top posts and clicks seem to have no relation with each other. Where are all the page views coming from if they are not listed?

The blog I need help with is wendyusuallywanders.wordpress.com.

  2. The site linked to your name isn't a WordPress.com blog, and we won't be able to help you with that.

  3. If you had then clicked the link to Wendy's Blog....you would have been at my WP blog. You often write the same harsh reply to person after person seeking help. It's not very helpful.

  4. To be fair neither raincoaster nor anyone else from the voluntary bloggers that help out here can read minds and there are a lot of people coming here asking for help with non wordpress.com blogs. :)

    Things to keep in mind:

Page views doesn't include your main page, only every other page apart from that.

Clicks doesn't include most searchengines, like Google, Live Search, Yahoo search. Typically only some are included. I've noted referral links from dogpile, mahalo, alltop, crawler..

So because some aren't included there are obviously going to be more hits than listed.

    Hope that makes sense/helps. :)

  5. Oh and you can use a limited version of Statcounter: http://www.statcounter.com/

Follow the instructions for javascript free code [as js isn't allowed on wp.com for security reasons] and you can have basic options on your readers, such as locations/OS/Browser and stats.

However, you need to make sure you filter your IP, as it will otherwise count your results which wp.com automatically filters out.

  6. Yes, I often repeat myself, because unless we can be sure it's a WP.com blog we're all talking about, there is no point in attempting to answer the questions. It saves everyone time if you give the link immediately, particularly if you already know we're going to ask for it.

You can use Statcounter, Sitemeter, Whosamungus, or any non-Javascript-based stats counter that can be placed in your sidebar. There are some comparative analyses of different ones over at http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com.

Referrers are not listed if people have your blog in their history or just type the name in to the browser bar. Clicks are the clicks AWAY from your blog.

Statcounter is a good one. It's easy to see when WordPress stats aren't working-like today for instance. WordPress is showing no hits. Statcounter is showing hits from just today that surpass 2 days of WordPress stats.

  8. Wendy, can you describe the problem with your stats please?

I just checked your stats page and see no sign of a problem.
