No idea Peter, I was unaware it was mucking up things. Off to run a test.

Added a sticky post, set an alert box, added widgets to all three sidebars and everything seems fine. Grey background to sticky post, non-sticky posts below it.
Normal from what I can see.
What was the problem you experienced?

My blog uses the Vigilance theme with a sticky most of the time. No problems there.
This being said, what's the URL of your blog so that we can see if there's a problem?

wayback when I first tried it all the other posts lost their colour to allover red - thanks for the assist folks I'll give it another whack
