strange URL's in my 'referrer' list
-
hello;
I am getting a lot of strange URL’s in my referrer list. I’m guessing that they are not real.
for example, today I got:
[spam URLs removed]where do these come from?
thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi. No, they’re not real. Report these to staff on Monday when they come back. Details here:

I too have had referrer spam from alphaoneo and bestaloper although with different details following the forward slash. Possibly a daft question but what happens if you click through on them? I did try but nothing happened. I will, of course, notify WordPress directly tomorrow as you suggest.

I highly discourage clicking through to the suspicious referrers. They’re quite often filled with viruses and other malware.

Response from staff:
Thanks for reporting this – we are aware of this problem and are working hard to find a solution to fix it.
Some background: what you’re experiencing is called “Referrer Spam”, and it’s an unfortunate side effect of the way statistics tracking works. Spammers take advantage of the referrer logs and visit your blog from phantom URLs that they are actually trying to promote, in the hope that you see them in your logs and click them.
In the meantime, you can rest assured that there is no security risk here, to you or to you blog. It’s just an annoyance, but one we will hopefully be able to get rid of very soon.
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/tons-of-hits-from-spam-domain?replies=29#post-548475These spam referrers do not in any way affect your blog’s Google page ranking.
1. Do not click the links.
2. Do not post the URL or names of the site into forum threads.
3. Report all spam referrals to Staff directly . -

No worries. That will help anyone too lazy to click on the link I posted :-)

Ok, thanks folks, I appreciate the replies. After posting I went offline and did a full system scan but it did not reveal anything. I guess that when I clicked onto the links and a new tab opened but did not actually connect with the site I was lucky. Glad it doesn’t cause anyone problems, rather it’s an annoyance.

Thanks for the clarification, I was at the end of my wits wondering how to block these terrible urls. Unfortunately i gave them enough clicks in my attempt to nail the problem, which I wasn’t able to! I shall ignore this data.

I have spammy visits from alphaoneo, bestaloper, berokmakye, ferangsiam…with some strange connection to Rahim Tambi who is a Malaysian minister with a rape case against him!

If they’re referrers, please contact us via http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ to report them.
If they’re comments, just keep marking them as spam.

So as i understand there is no way for me to block fake referrers?
I also clicked on these spam links, like [spam URLs removed] and i’m a bit worried now. I will do what you suggested here and send a mail to support.
I hope it helps. -
No there is no way for you to “block” them. Please read the sticky post at the head of the forum https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/regarding-referrer-spam?replies=1
