subdomain setup

  • This may be a wait-for-support problem.

I have a domain upgrade but I would like it to be a subdomain redirect (external registration, not wordpress) instead of the domain redirect. I don’t want to have an additional domain redirect, just change the one I have.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • I’m not sure I understand what you mean.

Do you want to use your domain eloreenmoon.com on a different site? If so, you can point the name servers to a different hosting provider.

If you need to use A records and a CNAME to use it as a subdomain, we can assist you with that, provided you let us know all of the particulars.

  • right now, my wordpress account shows eloreenmoon.com added here but i want it to be blog.eloreenmoon.com. eloreenmoon.com will be hosted somewhere else and it is setup with those dns servers. (Fixed that on the 31st.) I can’t change the domain in my wordpress account. Do I delete and re-add? Will that charge me again?

  • Okay, that makes sense.

You’ll need to log into your domain registrar to make these changes.

First, update your name servers to point to your new hosting account.

Next, create your subdomain with your registrar, and then follow the instructions below to map the subdomain to your WordPress.com site:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-subdomain/

If you’d like, I can remove the domain mapping you currently have, and credit you the $13 purchase so you can purchase a new one for the new subdomain without having to pay extra. Let me know.

  • @Jackie – the changes in the store make it unlikely that a person can find the map a sub-domain mapping option – I just tested things a bit with a domain name I own, and knowing where things were going – was told the name was already registered, given several different names that were not registered, then hidden way down at the very bottom, after I paged down – in light gray type was something to the effect – click here if I own the domain name –

I found it confusing at best and don’t remember anything about mapping a sub-domain

  • @auxclass, you may have caught a bug. I’ll pass this along to our Store team for further investigation.

  • It looks like it should still be possible to map a subdomain via the Store > Domains page, but not on the main Store page. I’m passing that along.
