Hi, I could not find anywhere in the support pages that explicitly give the answer to this question; do subscribers get to see posts that are set on private, and if the tags for private posts do not come up on the cloud, what's the point of the tags in the first place?

Hi. Are you referring to password-protected posts? (As opposed to a whole private blog?)
According to this, subscribers will get a notification that a password-protected post is available, and that's all
