I think, this plug-in might help for those who have a lot of uploads in your blogs.. (esp for those who have "extra space" upgrade)
In the back of my mind, I remember this not working over in the WPMu support forums...

@the link: I actually used to do it myself. Got my *cough* chewed out by a wordpress theme designer over it.
@the plugin: I actually thought it was a plugin as well.
I would like to see better file management though as well. It's better than what we used to have (It now gives the URLs if you click through to the image on your Manage -> Uploads page) but still could be even better.
