Summary not working

  1. I have worked with wordpress in the past but never been the owner so I am a little confused. I want my front page to show summaries instead of the full post. My first post after my welcome post is showing the full article in the feed instead of just the first 55 words. How do I fix this? I have the summary option selected but it isn't working. Also I made a test post to see if it would work and it didn't either and it also didn't appear at the top as the newest post but was between my welcome post and the other. What do I need to do to make my new posts be at the top of the page?

The blog I need help with is leftstickdown.wordpress.com.

  2. I have the same problem. I think it's a joke that they advertise 24/7 support and then send the entire support team away for several days. Apparently they haven't head of the idea of covering for people while they are away.

  3. I've tried those things. That's why the lack of live customer service is so annoying.

  4. Have you tried the support document that Panos (panaghiotisadam) gave you, about the "More" tag?

  5. @davicams, the option to show full text or summaries in the Settings → Reading page is for feeds only, not the blog front page. In order to make the posts on the front page show a small snippet, you should use the more tag. I looked at http://leftstickdown.wordpress.com/ and I see you've figured this out and used the more tag on the first post.

@bubsblurbs, the more tag should work. Could you point us to one of the posts where you added it so we can check it out?

  6. The problem is, for the first 160 posts I wrote, it worked properly. Then this morning all my posts reverted to full post on page. It suggests that something is wrong with the site.

  7. There is no setting that will change the posts from full text to summaries on the front page. Some themes, however, display snippets instead of the full text post. Have you changed your theme recently?

Do you normally view your site in a web browser or in a feed reader?

  8. Thanks guys for the more link....I was going nuts on how to do it...

    One very happy user here

    Kriss :)
