Switching categories & directory...will it kill links around the net?

    I actually have two questions:

    1. If I have already posted around on social media and switch a category say from "travel" to "travel and vacations" my url will now I'm assuming switch to something like "sitename.com/travel-and-vacations" which would kill all old links around the net....correct? If so is there a fix?

    2. Sort of the same situation as question 1, I have alot of blog posts around the internet, but might have jumped the gun and created a directory name that I kind of want to change. Currently it is set up as "sitename.com/blog" and I want to change it to "sitename.com/resources" and have the blog under the resources so "sitename.com/resources/blog" Is it too late at this point? Will I destroy all the links floating around the net?

    Hope that makes sense...

  2. Sort of makes sense - if you delete something (directory, category etc.) yes that will break the links into your site - but since you are probably in the wrong forum (please post the URL you need help with to be sure) - but you have some options with your WordPress.ORG install that are not available here that should let you mitigate the effects and do redirects inside your site

The site you are asking about does not seem to be hosted on WordPress.COM so you need to make friends over at WordPress.ORG the keepers of the software you are using.

This site is for support of sites hosted on WordPress.COM. You should address your questions to WordPress.ORG the keepers of the software you are using: http://wordpress.org/support/

The forum at WordPress.ORG is not connected to WordPress.COM so you will need to open an account at .ORG if you do not already have one. You may use the same email at WordPress.ORG as you do at WordPress.COM.

If you are asking for help with a WordPress.COM site then we need a link to that site to give you accurate help.

Just a note - any changes are best to be made early rather than later
