Switching of domain host to wordpress.com

  1. Hi there!
I have a domain (www.theprovidencegallery.net) which is being hosted by Clickandbefree.com and would like to transfer the domain to wordpress.com due to hefty subscription fees.
How should I go about to get this domain transferred to wordpress.com? I had signed up for the domain with them and I am worried that it will be difficult to shift from theirs to wordpress.com.
Your advice and assistance is much appreciated.
    Thank you and best regards.

  2. You can map an existing domain (one you already own) to your WordPress.com blog. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/ Follow these instructions if you already have a domain that you registered elsewhere, and you want to map that domain to your blog. http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/

  3. Hi.

I also have the same issue, I have a site hosted with another company and a domain registered with them and would like to change both to wordpress, creating a new site with wordpress while keeping my domain name.

If I map my domain to wordpress does that mean I will pay for my domain through wordpress or through the original company?

I would like to keep payments centralised and use only wordpress. Is this possible?

    Thanks.

  4. Hi @timethief,

Thank you for your reply. I'll try it out.

    Best regards.

  5. Hello, IDK if anyone else has this problem, but I purchased my custom domain from Blog[dot]com, and it says that my registrar is KEY-SYSTEMS GMBH. I have recently purchased/upgraded domain mapping from WordPress, and they've emailed me twice, letting me know that it's already active, but I need to update my DNS settings.

I have been trying to do this for the past 3 days to no avail. Please, can anyone more knowledgeable on this help me? It's getting really frustrating. :(

  6. @christrutergolf & @gorjaeous - you can map your domain name to your blog here but WordPress.COM is not set up the accept incoming domain name registrations so you will need to keep the registration not here.

  7. Hi, @auxclass. Thank you for your reply. As I've mentioned, I am unable to update the name servers to NS1.WORDPRESS.COM, etc. because I purchased my custom domain from another blog site. I don't have access to change the respective name servers by myself, and I'm at a complete loss on how to do this.

When I enter my custom domain in the browser, it still redirects to the Blog[dot]com, and not WordPress.com.

  8. Your registrar is where the name servers need to be changed - you should be able to change them by logging into your account or your registrar should be able to change them for you -you could also transfer your domain registration to another registrar but that would also require access to your account at your old registrar - other than that I am at a loss what to say

  9. It's frustrating, isn't it? Thank you for trying to help, though! Much appreciated, @auxclass.

  10. Try asking at your old registrar - they should have a help desk or forum of some sort
