Tag cloud doesn’t change
-
The old tags in my tag cloud don’t give way to newer ones which I use more. How can I solve this problem?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

We can’t provide appropriate answers without a link to the blog in question, starting with http. Please always provide that.

Thank you. Unfortunately, the Tag Cloud lists only the first forty six (or is it 42?) tags you use. It does not change after that, sadly. You could make a widget listing all your tags that would look like the Categories widget, but you’d have to do it by hand in a text widget, and it wouldn’t update with the number of entries in each tag.
The linear Categories widget does update.

No: unless something has changed, the tag cloud displays the 45 most used tags; it’s just that it takes some time to update.

Ah, thanks. I should never answer forum posts before I’ve had my coffee. Does it take longer than the usual half-hour to update the sidebar?

Related to this question, if you post new tags with a new blog entry, but they don’t show up in the tag cloud, do they still get hits in searches?
The Tag Cloud is really just a way for people who visit your site to click on tags of possible interest, correct?
-
They could, but they have less search engine juice than something that shows up in a widget.
And yes, that’s its main function, but it also adds a little googlejuice to your blog for each of those terms. The more times a specific term shows up on your blog, the higher you rank in searches for it.

@rain (re 10:51 PM post): Haven’t actually tested it, but it can definitely be longer than half an hour – here’s a relevant thread:

I read that and checked the blog hours after it had been posted, and the tags were still missing; eventually they showed up (don’t know how long it actually took).
