talking avatars

  • i want to embed a talking avatar from sitepal on esoriano.wordpress.com, but i cant seem to figure out how. i have downloaded their wordpress plugin, but i still cant figure out how. please refer to this site: http://102.freshmancomp.com/

i saw the blog author was succesful in embedding the talking avatar in the blog.

    help!

  • The url leads to a self hosted blogtemplate downloaded from http://wordpress.org and runs on different software than our wordpress.com blogs, which are hosted by wordpress do. WordPress.com blogs are running on wordpress multiuser software wp-MU we do not have plugins here . You cannot upload them to your wordpress.com blog and as far as I know wp-MU does not support “talking avatars”.

  • This seems to be a talking avatar designed and coded to run on myspaces blogs. It probably runs on javascript which cannot be used here for security reasons http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/07/javascript-can-i-use-that-on-my-blog/

  • What’s the different between wordpress.org and wordpress.com? Is it possible for me to switch to wordpress.org using my current blog? What are the advantages and disadvantatges?

  • the most basic definition

wp.com – bloggers who are hosted by wordpress.
wp.org – self-hosted bloggers who use the wp software.

you can switch by exporting your archives from wp.com to your new blog.
one advantage – there is almost no restrictions as to what you want to put in your blog.
one disadvantage – lots of work!

  • @esoriano

There’s a sticky at the head of the forum dealing with this so please read the thread carefully as it will answer your questions regarding the differences between wordpress.com hosted blogs and blog templates downloaded from wordpress.org and web hosted on different servers http://wordpress.com/forums/topic.php?id=3700

One advantage of having a wordpress.com blog hosted by wordpress is that all you need to do is blog because all the “geek work” is done by staff. This is what sulz refers to.

Another advantage is that blogs hosted by wordpress.com can be considered for Growing Blogs and Top Blogs. And the posts can be considered for Top Posts.

A third advantage is that all posts on blogs hosted by wordpress.com are placed on the wordpress category/tag pages and that increases traffic to them.

With a blog that is web hosted elsewhere you can have as much or as little advertising as you want and you can use as many or as few plugins as you want.

  • Thanks for the info!

  • You’re welcome from me and best wishes :) If you do decide to get a web host and have him download a blog template from wordpress.org for you then, here are some instructions that may be useful importing and exporting
