Technorati hits have the wrong title

  1. New WP blogger here. I just did a search at technorati.com to see whether pings were working. The article from my blog I expected did indeed return, but the title was screwy.

My article is entitled "Stem Cells, Ageing and the Quest of Immortality," but the Technorati hit looks like this:

    In Ouroboros 10 hours ago
“Stem cells, ageing and the quest for immortality” There’s a lovely review by Thomas Rando in Nature’s recent Insight on stem cells. The review turns one standard assumption in the field on its..."

So for some reason, Technorati is reading "Permalink" as the title of the entry.

I did another search -- it's true of all of my articles. They all show up with the title "Permalink."

Is there a way to fix this? By "fix" I don't mean having someone say it's Technorati's fault, which I wouldn't buy because the rest of the world seems to be able to get their titles in just fine -- I am guessing that there's a simple way to get the correct title sent in the ping.

I look forward to seeing this issue resolved.

    Cheers all

  2. OK, I won't tell you it's Technorati's fault.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can help you with.

And, yes, I do see the problem and the solution but since you don't want me to tell you it, I won't.

  3. yes, I do see the problem and the solution

I'm interested in hearing both even if the original posting party is not. Would you share them please?

  4. The title field for your post is "permalink" instead of the title. I think this is a problem with the theme.

<h2><a href="http://ouroboros.wordpress.com/2006/07/17/stem-cells-ageing-and-the-quest-for-immortality/" title="Permalink">“Stem cells, ageing and the quest for immortality”</a></h2>

Look at one of my blog posts, it's pretty weird as well.

  6. --- ok, the forum code keeps on interpreting my HTML even though it is in code tags.

  7. I just searched in technorati, and my links don't have "Permanent link to" even though they contain that in the title field of the href.

  8. @engtech - Gosh are you trying to clarify what drmike said for me? If so I've got to respectfully say to you that it's just not working for me. My head is spinning and I feel dumb.
drmike knows I'm a newbie, who just started blogging in April. He knows I have owned a computer for only 3 years and that I'm self taught. He knows that I don't know how to code.
In essence he's a support maven who babysits newbies. So when he volunteers here in the forum he simplifies things and gives us step by step approaches to learning and increasing our understanding. I think he does this slowly and simply so people like myself don't lose their self esteem, feel stupid and throw the towel.
Is there any possibility that you could take a very deep breath and run all of that stuff above by me again in a very simplified way as though you were instructing a crawling baby in cyber space?
I do want to learn but until I've completed computer kindergarten it doesn't make much sense for me to attend universtity classes. :)

  9. Sometimes I found that my links don't even go through. It gets that "Doh wrong page" page thing. Technorati has issues and I'm sure this is just another one of them.

  10. nosy - what I've gleaned so far is that permalink became the title. What I don't get is how to ensure this is unlikely or at least less likely to happen. If technorati has issues and I'm sure like any other big outfit that it does, I think we need to be able to isolate what those issues are and to give them a heads up notice of what's happening out here so we can effect change. We can't do that until we can succintly state the problem and the solution and I think drmike can do that. The step after that is to contact technorati support.

  11. Contact technorati support? lol Good luck trying. I once emailed them and never got a reply back.

  12. I get replies.
