Text Widget Editing Problem

  1. Hi to all,
Whilst editing my text widget, I realised I cant highlight, cut, copy, and paste the entered codes/text in it. So if I want to cut it, I have to remove it all. Unlike before, that for a user like me who is not really familiar with codes would just copy and paste stuffs, and highlight texts. I hope somebody can help us.

Somebody in this forum too experienced it...
    http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=25527&replies=11#post-184882

So help us to solve it. Many thanks in advance.

  2. I have the same issue with the text widget. It's also not very practical to see each sidebar seperately in the widgets section especially when I try to drag one or more widgets from one sidebar to another.

Besides that everything seems to be operating well to me (at least yet)... I quite like this new dash-stuff... Great work! thanks :)

  3. This I have noticed is a problem with IE7 and the new wordpress. It is not a problem with Firefox however. I expect staff will work through the problem, but for the moment if you are using IE, download Firefox and use it. Once the problem is addressed you can, if you wish, uninstall Firefox and go back to IE.

  4. very brilliant thesacredpath! i already did..

  5. The problem is also evident on IE6. I'll wait for the fix. No FireFox for me.

  6. Maybe we need also to send support ticket about this :-)

  7. I have tried on trail and error basis on how to insert a text Widget to the sidebar widget. It seems it only accept input in the form of HTML Codes only. If you try to copy and paste an image directly and insert it into the Text Widget it won't work.

    Jay

  8. That is correct, but there is no change there. It has always worked that way.

  9. The Text Widget has never been able to accept images by copy and paste method. You've got to figure out how wide and tall the image you want to use then use the uploaded tool to get it on wp.com server and get the URL from within the Editor to include in the widget. Make sure the path is correct and the image will appear. I format my buttons with image width of 170 px max.

  10. shimworld is right. but as for editing the content like highlighting, using crtl+A, etc in the widget, it is not now possible. only we have to do is using delete or backspace, or remove.

  11. Windonmyface,

Hai...as I said earlier the only way for a text widget to work is by inserting HTML Codings into the text box. Normally HTML codes will start with<begin....." something and will end with..." End> This open and close bracket options will distinguished between different sets of texts or images to be inserted into the Widget Text Box. You could actually insert as many HTML codings sets in one Text Widget one after the other in contenious sets.In order to delete or edit and of the unwante set ,we have to distinguished the beginning and ending of each set of text or image to be deleted or edited.

I have tried this and its seems to be working. In fact I could insert not only one,two or three sets of HTMlL codings in one Text Widget but as many sets as I want. Why don't you try to visit my Web Site and see what I'm talking about. For your info all the advirtesment you will see in my right sidebar is done all by using HTML Codings..My URL address is http://jay530401.wordpress.com

    Good luck.... Jay

  13. Yes, actually before the new dashboard was introduced, i was already putting lots of html codes in one text widget, and it works, too. :-)

"Mark the begining ,highlight with your mouse until you find the end" -- thats where my problem starts. Cannot do it now with the new dashboard. No more highlighting using mouse... I just can't do the highlighting thing. What i can only do now is use the del or backspace button, OR remove it.

well, thanks for the efforts jay! Apa kabar? your an indonesian right? I saw your blog with Bahasa Indonesian dialect. :-)

  14. Kabar Baik.,. A Malaysian...Sabah Orgins. You? My blog is a mixed dialects B.Malaysia & English....

  19. jay, My mom always telling me im pretty. hahaha.. I havent been there, maybe someday. I want to go at Kota Kenabalu, too :-)

By the way anyone, who can help me how to do this in my text widget. Please fill up the blanks for html codes in the blank space provided...
1st space [....] = i want to add my photo and i want the paragraph to be in justified alignment too

2d/last space [.....] = I want to put a link on More about Baikong linked to my About Me and Blog Page

[.....] The Life of a Not-So Princess Blog is about analysing cultures and reflection of my experiences working to empower the underprivileged, the poorest of poor. It also reflects and raises awareness on global issues that affects the developing countries. [.......]

Thanks guys! I am just so poor in html codes. Again, thanks!

  20. Why don't you use this shortcut:

Compose the widget as if it were a Post, on the Write Post page. Save it as a Draft only, never publish it. Play with it until it looks the way you like, then click the Code tab and copy all the code. Paste that in your text widget.

  21. windonmyface,

Why don't you try this method cause its work for me..but it's a bit long procedure.

    1. Open your photo in any photo editor.. open your photo to make it smaller by using the edit to "crop" your photo. The purpose is to make your photo just the right size to fit into your widget space. Save your edited photo to a file.

    2. Log on to http://www.freeimagehosting.net/ to upload your edited photo. Its Free

    3. After you upload your upload the service provider will respond by providing your uploaded photo in HTML codings. Select from the list provided.

    4. Copy the coding by pressing the left button on your mouse......
Note: make sure at this stage you should never press your right button.... ok.

    5. Last stage...open your wordpress dashboad , click on widget, click open the text widget where you want to place your photo and then paste your HTML codes ( Right button).

    6. Save changes and view your site...see what happen

    Jay

  22. @jay530401
I would suggest you do as dissfunktional says and get rid of all the porn, affiliate and click me ads on your blog. If you don't, it will be deleted, it is only a matter of time.

  23. raincoaster, that's a good idea for now until they work out the problem, but it doesn't help us if we want to change a text widget that's already in place and we don't have it saved somewhere.

I tried to change a text widget tonight and it still won't allow me to highlight anything at all. I can certainly use the backspace to get rid of it and paste new text into it, but the old text contained image urls with links I want to save and place elsewhere on my blog.

As Cal said in the movie Titanic...

What to do... what to do?

  24. Copy the URLs and links from the front page of your blog into a Notepad doc.

    Have you read this thread?

Google your blog and click cache and get it from there. It shouldn't have updated yet.

  26. That should work if you're already in the middle of the process. Clever work.

  27. Maybe I will wait when the WP.com support fixed this problem... I hope it is very soon.

I can't help you on the highlighting but if you can manage to highlight, to copy it is the Ctrl key pressed together with the C key. To paste is the Ctrl key pressed together with the V key. When pasting it, if it doesn't paste the first try, click Ctrl V a couple of times together until it pastes. Hope it helps.

And Google your blog and check the cache and copy anything you can from your widgets or click on your mouse View Page Source and cut and paste everything for later use. All the codes are there.

  30. pornstarbabylon, thanks but highlighting is my prob now... but really thanks for tips, for the meantime, that is the most clever thing to do!
