   I read somewhere out there in the ether today that using your registered .com name for your blog can have a detrimental effect on your search engine optimisation.

   I appreciate that content is king but it would help to have as many cards in your favour as possible.

   I would prefer to promote my blog as a dotcom but not at the expense of being found through the keywords I will be targeting.

   So do we stay as a blog name.wordpress or blog name.com? Or is there no effect?

   Would anybody be able to elaborate on this question for me please?

   whatever.wordpress.com > whatever.com when it comes to SEO, but whatever.com looks so much more professional that we always recommend it. And most people won't remember the ".wordpress" part of the URL anyway, so a custom domain is better for overall views.

   whatever.com looks so much better on a business card and as noted above is much easier to remember

   Whether you are a professional blogger, a business blogger or a hobby blogger, if you are committed to developing your brand by producing quality content over the long-term, then I recommend getting your own domain and a no-ads upgrade from the get go.
