The new video posting system doesn't work at all

  1. The new method of posting video links doesn't work at all. When I click and drag a link and then drop it on the page, it doesn't work. Nothing happens. I had to hand type the url in after my attempt at dragging a you tube link to the url also failed.

THIS IS TEN TIMES WORSE THAN THE OLDER WAY! Which worked absolutely fine.

  2. We actually simplified that system quite a while ago.

Now, all you need to do is paste the URL of the YouTube video into the post.

Please see this for more details: http://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/youtube/

  3. I tried this today again. And 'a while a go' was what, three days ago?

This is a new system and still doesn't work!

  4. The "new" (as in newer) system of pasting in just the video URL has been around for over 2 years.

Would you please give me a link to the post or page where it isn't working for you?

  5. Here is one of my blog pages that didn't work:

    http://emsnews.wordpress.com/2012/12/01/krauthammer-and-oreilly-go-all-fox-tv-raging-at-53-who-voted-for-obama/
I just tried it. I couldn't click and drag it, that didn't work. So I typed it into the box and it came up as 'this video doesn't exist'.

As for 'two years' using this system, no, you did not have this peculiar system until just this last week.

The old system worked perfectly. Why on earth did you guys get rid of it????

  6. One other thing here, I am, unlike most people using your service, a paying customer. I wish we had a better way to communicate with you all. I understand you don't want to talk to freebie people but those of us who are paying customers deserve a higher level of response. I wish I could call and talk to you guys.

I left other services due to people being difficult to reach.

You entered http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIOTO7kgVzs as the video URL, which doesn't exist. Also, you don't have to enter the shortcode. When you find a video that does exist, just copy and paste its URL as directed at http://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/youtube/

The Add Media system changed a few days ago, yes, but the ability to enter just the YouTube URL has been around for over two years.

  8. I finally figured out what is wrong.

    SAFARI.

Your new system doesn't work on Safari. PLEASE tell your people to go look into this matter. It doesn't even slightly work in Safari. I have to use Firefox to make it work and then transfer it to Safari.

There are a number of things that work better on Safari than Chrome or Firefox which is why I use Safari so much. Why don't all of these work the same degree?

PLEASE tell the coding staff to deal with this. It doesn't work at all in Safari. Thank you in advance.

  9. I have actually bee using it via Safari since before it launched, that's my primary browser too, and never had the issue you're describing. I tried again today, and it still works just fine.

The video you were attempting to include earlier http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIOTO7kgVzs simply doesn't exist. We have no control over that.

  10. Let's try this out: I go to the 'insert media' page. I click on the 'From URL' on the left sidebar. I then see 'From URL' on the right side with a 'http://' in a black slot below it.

So...I click and drag my url from You Tube...AND NOTHING WORKS. It doesn't work on Safari!

Please tell me, step by step, how you manage to have it work. I am now utterly baffled.

  11. No, don't do that at all. Simple copy the video URL, and paste it directly into the post.

Please follow the guide at http://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/youtube/ starting right from the top.

  12. Please tell me how to 'copy' the url. I know that clicking on it and dragging it over doesn't work in Safari.

I may be stupid but seriously, it worked great the old way.

  13. Just double-click in Safari's address bar, this will highlight the URL there, then either press command-c on your keyboard or select "Copy" from the Edit menu.

Then in the post, please the cursor where you want the video to appear and either press command-v on your keyboard or select "Paste" from the Edit menu.
