Themes on wp.com dont match installable themes

  1. So I found a bunch of themes I like in the Theme Browser on WordPress.com. I go to my blog (self-hosted), and click "Install Theme".

Not one of the themes I found on WordPress.com were available from searching through the Install Theme list. How do I add something like Structure or Imbalance 2 to my site if they cannot be installed or downloaded?

  2. There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.COM blogs like the one linked to your username and we cannot install individual plugins or third party themes into them. Those found on the internet are for WordPress.ORG installs which run on different software.

On free hosted wordpress.COM blogs we can only use the themes which have been coded to run on this multi-user software and made available to us here. > Appearance > Themes and no others. There are versions of both the Sructure and Imbalance 2 themes have been adapted to run on our software here.

  3. If you are going to use Imbalance 2 then I'll save both you and I some time.

Imbalance 2 offers two layout options, fluid and fixed.
Fluid means the width changes according to screen resolution (or the width of browser) your visitors use.
Fixed means the width does not change according to screen resolution (or the width of browser) your visitors use.

Column one is the blog title and tagline; you edit them in Settings > General.
Columns two and three are for two menus; you create and load them in Appearance > Menus - instructions here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
Column four is for widgets; you add them in Appearance > Widgets.

You need to set a featured image in each post in order to see the thumbnail in imbalance 2. Click on the module that has 'featured image' in it (if you don't see the module, look at the top of the editor window for 'screen options' and check it') then the image editor will appear. Browse to the image you want to use, via that, in the usual way, and then when you've found it, click the 'featured image' and when it appears in the module (outside the edit box) just close the image editor, and save your post as usual. An image that works best with featured images at least 210 wide.

  4. @Timethief,
I've been searching for answers for hours, and it seems as though you're helping everyone on the internet!

I think this question applies here: I'm using the Oxygen theme, and there's no option to select the 'showcase page' template in my page attributes menu. I figured out how to set the slider and all that on my blogname.wordpress.com site, but after importing all my content to blogname.com, the 'showcase page' option doesn't seem to exist.

If you can help I'd be incredibly appreciative!

    Site I can't figure out: http://truewestwoodwork.com/

  5. I'm using Oxygen and having a terrible time too. I cannot set the slider. Unlike @truewestwoodwork, I have the 'showcase page' option. But when I follow the directions noted in theme's page, it does absolutely nothing. Should I be using a more stable theme or press on?

This thread is not an Oxygen thread. Please try searching Oxygen threads as I have to leave an meet a ferry now. Then please post into Oxygen threads and not this one.
