There are no public comments available to display

  1. Hello,

I am getting this error message on a recent comments widget "There are no public comments available to display." Is this because the page requires a login? If so is there a way to have the comments show up after the person logs in? The page in question has comments on it.

The blog I need help with is hoogefamilyreunion.wordpress.com.

  2. The post is password protected so the comments are not going to display to any users who are not logged into the blog. As it sounds like that is not happening I'll tag this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

  3. Sorry I just realized something. The Recent Comments widget http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/recent-comments-widget/ displays comments made on your on Posts, not on Pages. http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/

  4. See in the widget it gives you the option of (checkboxes)

    Show comments from:
    Posts
    Pages
    Media

so in theory it should show up since the comment is on the same page.

Basically the way I have the site set up is that the site is family reunions and each year on the main page and update page it has a widget that is supposed to show the most recent comments (not sure if it is comments throughout the site or just on those pages, there aren't really any options there) and a gallery widget that shows that year's photos.

  5. Okay then I do apologize for my misdirection. I'll tag this thread for a Staff follow-up. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

  6. That's cool, and thank you for your help on this.

    Hi there!

The Recent Comments widget pulls comments site-wide, not just from the specific page it is on.

Comments from password protected posts and pages will not appear in the widget. Since all of your pages are password protected, there are no comments for the widget to display.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Comments from password protected posts and pages will not appear in the widget.

Thanks for confirming that for me and for ziatiger.

  9. Thanks for getting back to me, it is unfortunate that the widget doesn't pull in the comments from password protected pages. It would be nice if the widget would display the comments after you logged in.

    Hello!

I do understand your frustration. We have no current plans to change this functionality, but I'll pass the suggestion on to the team!

You may be interested in setting up a private site instead of using password protected pages. This would allow for the functionality that you're looking for while still keeping your site private.

Let me know if you have any further questions!
