there has got to be a better way of dealing with these SplogS!!!

  1. once again I find some splog somewhere stealing content from a post i made today.
The content stolen of the blog is just silly satire.but thats not the point its the SPLOG..

So goto the the selfhosted splog, find who owns it. which is another site. Then threaten to report them to google, etc.(to be taken off there index).
usually this gets my content taken off.

The fact is that reporting it to, say google, it is a hassle and it takes a while for anything to happen.

How are other people dealing with this nuisance?
It got to be better than my way.

  2. Check the forums for 'dmca' and 'whois'

Complain to Google? You have a better chance of success by talking to a brick.

  3. If you complain to Google about the same blog at least once a day it seems to work after a week or so.

There has GOT to be a better way of dealing with these penguins.

  4. Its probably best for me to just ignore these splogs.

yes finding the web host and taking the issue up with them is the best way to deal with them, from my experience..

As far as dealing with google...ugh, raincoaster is right. You got to complain repeatedly to google about an abuse. while every Web hosting company i have seen deletes spam immediately... google seems to be very very slow or even uninterested.

  5. Google doesn't want to kill accounts, because even accounts from sploggers make them money. I must confess I don't go after them much anymore, because frankly I like the Technorati bonus they give by linking back. Which is, of course, what they're counting on I guess. Since Technorati is so seriously borked lately anyway, I might as well start killing them off again.

  6. A question about these SPLOGS: is this done manually by real people (copy/pasting your content) or do they have computers (bots?!,spiders??!) setting it all up and everything is done automatically??

If it's a real person, yelling at them (by any communicative means that they provide) should be effective in telling them to not copy from your site..

    Anyway, my 2 cents!
    pKay.

  7. Both. Yelling at criminals is very rarely effective: cutting off their source of income works better, which is why I prefer reporting them to confronting them; you're talking to a brick wall. A brick wall that will sell your email address to spammers.

  8. Aaah good point.... I was assuming that if the original owner of what they stole confronted them, they would be worried and remove whatever they stole...But I guess ill see how it is when I come to that situation (if?)

    Cheers!

  10. EEK sorry for double (now tripple post) it came up with a "Whops sorry something went wrong error" with the first post so I re sent it...

  11. It's the weekend, so something traditionally goes wrong either in the forum or on the blogs on the weekend. Better the forum hiccup than the blogs, I say!

  12. @dlager,

This question comes up time and time again. If you're dealing with Google Adsense ads on a scum site, once you get the routine down, it shouldn't take any more than a couple minutes with each new case. I show how to do that in this post:

    http://lettershometoyou.wordpress.com/2007/11/20/what-to-do-if-youre-getting-as-sick-as-i-am-of-having-your-blog-copied/

  13. as far as the Technorati and sploggers. one time, along time ago, i searched for my post...
What came up ... my post on someone else's (sp)blog with about three times as much authority as i had.
    hehe gotta laugh about it.

  14. Post more. If you post more, eventually you'll outrank all of them.

  15. Please somebody splog me, lol, isn't it a compliment? or am I missing a point [probably]

  16. nope, not at all.... u might think ur special in their eyes but ur not.... when they splogged u, they also splogged a thousand other people... and its not for your beautiful writing, its just so they have something to make money out of you..
