There is no more option to make a slideshow in a post

  1. This slideshow issue completely defeats the purpose of using WordPress to host my website... Looking in to other options now.

  2. There is no issue for me. Please clarify what the issue is for you. Surely typing [slideshow] is not an onerous task so there must be something beyond that you are having trouble with.

  3. jchproductions - as I mentioned earlier, we do intend to bring back the "Insert slideshow" button and its associated features in a future release.

There are some complex technical reasons behind this and unfortunately it's just not currently possible to bring the button or ordering feature back immediately. I realize the change is an inconvenience for some, and we sincerely apologize.

If you require finer control over the slideshow order beyond what's currently possible using one of the techniques I described here, you might want to look at using a gallery as an alternative in the meantime.

I have no issue typing [slideshow] or [gallery] or [anything] really. It's hardly difficult.

What is difficult, is not being able to sort the order of photos, ie change them around because you post a lot and want some to be in a slideshow and others not, NOT being able to edit once up, ie crop, rotate, and obviously adding the featured photo. What on earth is with this latest debacle? It really is a total disaster.

I have no interest in the slideshow or gallery button. If people can't work out how to add that via [ ] then I'm not sure they should be blogging. But the other functions are useful. And they are gone.

  5. not being able to sort the order of photos

There are two ways to set the order on a new slideshow > http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/there-is-no-more-option-to-make-a-slideshow-in-a-post?replies=5#post-1082501

NOT being able to edit once up, ie crop, rotate, and obviously adding the featured photo

The image editing tools still work http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/image-editing/

I have never used those. I pre-size images offline before uploading them. That means I don't experience an image quality loss, don't waste my upload space and don't have to do any troubleshooting.

  6. obviously adding the featured photo

We can still set a featured image via the old method for setting featured images. http://en.support.wordpress.com/featured-images/#setting-a-featured-image
Note: If you don’t see the Featured Image module on your Add New or Edit Post page, please make sure you’ve selected Featured Image in your Screen Options.

  7. What is difficult, is not being able to sort the order of photos, ie change them around because you post a lot and want some to be in a slideshow and others not,

You can still sort the order of photos in a gallery, just not those in a slideshow, as I mentioned above. The ability to sort images in a slideshow will be restored in a future update.

NOT being able to edit once up, ie crop, rotate,

You can edit an image after uploading it through the Media Library.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/image-editing/

and obviously adding the featured photo.

The ability to add a featured image directly through the Add Media window has been restored.

You can also add a featured image to a post through the box at the bottom of each post that says "Set featured image."

The only reason I want to use the image editing tools is for photos that for some quirk will not play the right way, so I need to rotate them (usually phone images). I also resize and pre-edit beforehand.

I've just tried a new post (on rough seas using 2011) and just lost the post!

Seriously, thanks for your time, but it seems like making life harder for no added benefit. I'll go cook something to eat ;)

  9. roughseasinthemed - I've answered your rotation question in your other thread.

Thanks to both TT and kathryn - I can do everything as before, well except it seems to take longer and a lot more steps, but that isn't your fault. I'm just left wondering why the need to change something that worked perfectly well. Anyway, thanks to both of you. Although I haven't tried re-arranging a slideshow. Guess I will leave that one alone for a while....

  11. An Edit Image button should now be visible on the Add Media window, just above the Delete Permanently link.

  12. I have to agree, the insert slideshow button was really useful and the only reason i was using wordpress.com instead of wordpress.org.
It is much more complicated now to order, edit and create slideshows especially when you are uploading 50-100 photos a day to your blog. I also have many authors and contributors to my blog who no longer know how to add a slideshow, many of whom are not very computer savvy. I hope the insert slideshow button is back soon, next to insert gallery

  13. We all hope it's back soon.

  14. Inserting a slideshow is quite easy - just type in [slideshow] wherever you want it to appear.

Getting it into the right sequence - whoa! Not at all easy. Try putting dozens of photos into newest first - oldest last sequence. Do it on different days. Omit one and try to insert it later into the proper place? Forget it - you have to delete every photo with a more recent date. Enter photos of one date, post everything & leave, then come back a few hours later to try to post some more recent photos? Won't work. Program sticks them into sequence as if you hadn't taken a break.

I sure hope this gets straightened out soon. It worked like a charm previously.
Thanks for your suggestions (upload & post each photo separately) which I have followed and which do work, albeit onerously.

  15. We are currently working on revamping the slideshow feature and will let you know just as soon as it's ready!

  16. Any idea when it will be fixed?

I've experimented and determined that I can attach them one-by-one to create a desired sequence, but all such later additions by attachment will follow all previously attached photos (when attached after the programming change.) Thus what I was doing previous to the change - slideshow sequence displaying last date first - can no longer be done.

  18. I hope to have good news to share soon, though I can't promise an ETA. Thanks very much for your patience, we hope it'll be worth the wait.

  19. The option to add a slideshow from the new Media interface is now available. Slideshows are now part of the Galleries feature, and have all the useful options that galleries do, including the ability to reorder, randomize, and exclude certain images from the slideshow. You can learn more on these two pages:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/slideshows/

One thing to keep in mind is that while the old [slideshow] shortcode will continue to work, to access all the new features – such as ordering, excluding certain images, etc. – you'll need to update your shortcode to use the new [gallery type="slideshow"] format.

If you have any questions about the new slideshows, just let me know.

  20. Kathryn:
Thanks to you and whomever else was involved, the slideshow function now works very well, and I am again able to do everything I could do before. I'm very grateful, and I expect that my hair - recently pulled from my head by person or persons unnamed - will indeed eventually grow back.

  21. Wonderful! Definitely worth the wait!

  22. Hi i still got a problem getting that gallery type: slideshow
am i suppose to have that option already? back at its normal settings?

  23. The "Insert Slideshow" option is missing. Until the button comes back, you can simply type the following in your post or page after you've uploaded your images.
    [slideshow]

  24. where am i writing this word? i cant get it brrrr

  25. As kathrynwp said above, the option to add a new slideshow already exists as part of using the Gallery feature.

After you make your image selections and click the Create a New Gallery button in the Media Uploader, the screen changes to the Gallery screen. In the right sidebar there is a dropdown for "Type" whose options are Default (thumbnail grid), Tiles (rectangle), Square Tiles, Circles and SLIDESHOW. Select SLIDESHOW, click the Insert Gallery button.

  26. chukar49 & justjennifer - it's our pleasure!

chukar49 - I do hope that hair grows back. :-)

shlepshitz - if you're still having trouble with a particular slideshow, please start a new thread and link to it from here so I can help you troubleshoot more easily. Please include the link to your post or page with the slideshow and let me know whether you're trying to add a new slideshow or adapt a pre-existing one to the new format.
