If you're using Chaotic Soul, the "grey bar" is just part of the layout. There's two more at the top.
Have a look at my site (linked orver there <<< and you'll see it's the same on mine too.
It's a feature, not a bug.

Just for the record, the grey bar finally disappeared, but it's not the "grey bar" which is part of Chaotic Soul's layout. I had this happen before with a different template; I'm not sure why it happens or even how I got rid of it.
