Thinking about a domainname but.. what about all the backlinks?

  1. Hi there,

I still think about the domain option but I am unsure. What would happen with all the backlinks still targeting to blogname.wordpress.com?

Does the linkjuice flows over to the new domain too or are these yet excisting backlinks broken and the new domain must reach new people who backlink to the new domain?

The blog I need help with is diaryofdennis.wordpress.com.

  2. The old links to diaryofdennis.wordpress.com will still work just fine as long as you map your domain name to a blog here - it will take a while for search engines to change the search links - but all the old links will work - not sure what effect the domain mapping / domain name change will have on search results - but the links are fine

  3. Ok thanks. I found out now in the german forums that domain mapping will cause a "301 moved permanently" and the pagerank and search result wont have a bad effect. There are no losses.

But what about google webmaster tools? Do I need to change the url there or add it new? Or does google recognize it there too?

  4. I think you will need to update Google Webmaster tools as they will see the new URL - this will give you a second entry for Webmaster Tools but the first entry will still be there - just not be updated anymore
