I have obtained the name aprosemusings for my blog but am not happy with it. I would like my address now to be "newname".wordpress.com. Is there any way I can do that myself? Or could I create a new account and have WordPress transfer it for me? Thank you.
I'd rather not start from scratch again. :(

If I understand what you're saying correctly, you should be able to do that quite simply:
Dashboard > My Blog > Change blog address.
