Transferring followers to my wordpress.org site

  1. I recently transferred my wordpress.com site to a .org site. In the process, someone was able to transfer e-mail subscribers for me, but not wordpress.com followers.

However, yesterday on my .org site the wordpress.com followers were there in the statistics counting as blog followers, so I thought this was awesome, now all of my old followers could still see my posts! Then, this morning, that number had disappeared again (This is a significant number, too... Around 800 people).

Can anyone tell me what's going on? And will we ever be able to bring our followers from wordpress.com over to wordpress.org? (and why did it do that for 24 hours? I was really excited and then horribly disappointed this morning when it was gone)

The blog I need help with is thepescetarianandthepig.com.

  2. Hi,

    That's a good question; I don't have a ready answer (yet).

I looked at our system, and it showed 26 followers for your account (so may be a mix of various blogs if you have more than one). We really are only able to transfer email subscribers, because WordPress.org doesn't have the same database of users that we do (but if they put in their email address to receive email updates from your blog, we then have that handy to transfer).

Have you tried clearing your cache recently? It's possible that your blog was pulling up the "old" information through some crazy glitch, but even that seems like a bit of a stretch. Could you try clearing it anyway? Here is more information about how to do that:

Then, if you happen to see the old subscriber information pop up again, grab a quick screenshot so we can see, too.

    Cheers!

  3. When I transferred to wordpress.org my wordpress.com site had over 700 followers. When they transferred my e-mail followers, it transferred 300 e-mail subscribers and cleared all of the rest of the people that had been followers, but not e-mail subscribers. When this sudden acknowledgement of followers happened on my .org site, the total number was 1,017. I was THRILLED. I thought that all of my old followers somehow been able to reconnect to me. When I went to look at my subscribers, it even had both an "e-mail followers" link AND a "blog followers" link. I was so excited :(

I went through my history and tried the clear cache thing and everything, but I'm not getting the same result as I did on the 18th. It lasted for 24 hours, and it even changed on my "Subscribe to" widget to say "Join 1,017 other subscribers". Such a ttteeeeaaaasssseeee!

  4. Wow, that is so strange!

I'm going to look into this and get back to you. I'm so sorry you got teased so cruelly!
