Transferring my Blogger to WordPress

  1. Hi,

I want to bring my Blogger/Blogspot blog over to WordPress. I looked through the "Moving a Blog" page in the Support section, and it looks like I'll have to do a Guided Transfer. Is that my only option, or is there a better (i.e. cheaper) way?

    Thanks.

The blog I need help with is thebrightwoodian.wordpress.com.

  2. Guided transfers are really more for people who already have a blog on wordpress.com and want to switch to the self-hosted version of wordpress.

You can automatically import your blogger posts into your free wordpress.com blog following the instructions here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/. If you decide the service here is too limited you can apply for a guided transfer if you wish, but you'll probably want to get used to blogging with wordpress before you start spending money on transfers, domains and hosting.

  3. You misunderstand what a guided transfer is for. It's for moving wordpress.COM blog content to wordpress.ORG installs. You can move your Blogger (blogspot) content into a free hosted wordpress.COM blog free of charge.

For exporting you Blogger (blogspot) content see here > (scroll down to exporting your blog ) http://www.google.com/support/blogger/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=97416 The instructions for importing are found here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/

Once you have successfully accomplished this you can either delete your Blogger blog or make it "private" so you do not experience "duplicate content" issues with Google and other search engines.

  4. Thanks guys.

  5. You're welcome from me. :)
