Transferring my followers from wordpress.com to wordpress.org

  1. I am in the process of moving my wordpress com to wordpress.org. I would like to transfer my followers as well and I would like to know how this can be made.

    Can you help me?

    Thank you.

  2. I can help you with that.

Just to clarify, is this correct:

Old site: http://baconandjackrussels.wordpress.com/ New site: http://173.247.250.112/~bacona6/

  3. HI, thank you so much for your help.

    Yes it is.

Will you let me know when it is completed ?

  4. I have migrated your subscribers and followers to your new site.

Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

  5. Thank you so much.

I have gone to the wordpress.com site - and I see that there are 5 followers left there. When you migrate the subscribers to the wordpress.org, the wordpress.com site does not have anymore subscribers left there?

I thought it will be duplicated - this is because my wordpress.org site is still being constructed and I am still using the .com one to post. I see that there are 5 followers still left there but they are not new followers. And they also appear on the .org site.

And in addition, when I change my domain to the wordpress.org site, will the .com site be 'inactive' and how long will it take?

And will I have 2 sites? Can I come back to .com to check on the reader etc, for blogs that I follow?

    Thank you so much.

  6. Hello, I am also having emails notifications about followers to my blog but they are not new followers - they have followed me for some time and not today...

Is there something bug? Can you help me?

  7. Transferring your subscribers/followers should be the very last thing you do before you begin blogging on your new self-hosted WordPress install. If you transfer subscribers and keep blogging on WordPress.com, your transferred subscribers won't see your posts (since they are not longer following the old WordPress.com blog) and you will end up with a few new subscribers from people who randomly found your posts or from old readers who are confused that they aren't seeing new posts and resubscribe.

When you are totally ready to start posting on your new site, let me know and I can transfer the subscribers again to pick up the last few stragglers.

Please let me know if you have further questions or if anything is unclear.

  8. HI I am so sorry - i was not aware of that.

Thank you for your help - i am fully on my self-hosted wordpress.org site now.

Can you please help me to transfer the subscribers again to pick up the new ones that have followed the blog?

Old site: http://baconandjackrussels.wordpress.com/ New site: http://173.247.250.112/~bacona6/

Thank you so much - please let me know when you are done.

  9. I have transferred those remaining subscribers.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

  10. Thank you very much.

Is there a reason why some subscribers are getting new posts in their spam box, instead of in the inbox?

  11. Overactive spam catchers is my only guess. Encourage them to white-list the notification email address.

  12. HI Josh,

Today all my followers have disappeared from the blog... can you help me to transfer them again? It seems like there is only 1 left..

The blog I need help with is baconandjackrussells.com.

And nobody is getting any email notifications of my new posts - not sure if you can help me with that.

    Thank you.

  13. That happened because you switched up your URL after transferring subscribers. All the subscribers were left with your old domain.

I have migrated your subscribers and followers to your new site.

As far as email updates, please keep in mind that while your email subscribers will continue to receive email notifications of new posts as before, WordPress.com followers will only see new posts in the Reader. They will not receive email updates unless they subscribe to receive those on your new site.

Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

  14. HI Josh thank you so much for your help and reply. I am new to this blog stuff so your explanation is helpful.

But so far my email subscribers does not receive my email notifications either. I had 4 posts today and my own email address did not receive either... so that is why I think something is up.

    What should I do?

And for WordPress.com users, what do I do? write to them if I want to? And then when they follow me with their email addresses, they will get notifications?

I just logged onto my blog - I do see 1 follower (new one from last night) - is there a jetpack I can use or plugin etc? to see the total subscribers?

And when others follow, I don't see the notification either, like before.

Thank you so much for your advice and help.
    Michelle

  15. HI Josh,
I will ask all my queries on this thread instead of writing a few as advised by your colleagues. Thank you for your help.

    Email notifications:

I just wanted to let you know where things stand now:
    - email subscribers can receive email notifications from my new posts as of today (i checked with current subscribers)
    - wordpress.com followers (you are right), One of my wordpress.com subscriber has just written to me to say that she has tried putting in her email address into the 'follow me' box but was told that she is already subscribed.. what do i advise her / other wordpress.com users to do?

    Likes:
    - is there a way i can transfer the previous likes from my old posts over to the new site ?

    Subscribers:
    - i see the number of subscribers on my site stats already. Thank you for your help in transferring.

    Site Stats:
    - This is not working, i see only the daily stats. Is there a plugin or jetpack i can use?

    Thank you so much
    michelle

  16. You should have all your subscribers check their reader settings for your site to make sure they are set to receive email. They can do that here:

    http://wordpress.com/#!/read/edit/

There is no way to move likes, sorry to say.

Can you explain further what isn't working about stats?

  17. HI Josh, thank you for your help.

Recently i noticed that i have had subscribers who have subscribed to my site but i am not aware of them.

    - they do not get email notifications (they did key in their email addresses)

    - i did not get any emails of new subscribers either.. previously i used to get notifications of new subscribers.. currently in wordpress org, that feature is not there anymore?

I have asked the wordpress org support forum for help on other plugin that i can use for site stats as i think it is not working well (the number of subscribers stay constant even though my new friends have newly subscribed over the last 2 weeks...). Hence i am not sure what is wrong here.

    Thank you Josh.

  18. What URL is your blog currently at?

  19. HI Josh

    baconandjackrussells.com.

Are you able to check if there is anything wrong?

  20. HI Josh,
I have just done a check on the 'old' blog - at wordpress.com and there are 25 new subscribers since you have helped me shift the 'older' ones to my new blog at wordpress.org.

    Can I ask
    - why the subscribers would appear on the 'old' site stats and not the new one?
    - are they getting new posts' notifications via email? I don't think so but as long as they get it in reader, that is ok with me.
    - how come when they subscribe, it goes to the old wordpress com site and not on wordpress org site?

this is puzzling to me. No wonder I don't see increase in the subscribers but my friends told me they have clicked on follow... and then I have to ask for your help to transfer the subscribers every few weeks.. this is troublesome for you.

is there a plug in that I have to install for this?

my blog is baconandjackrussells.com. I can see that the graph on the site stats has stopped since the day I changed to wordpress.org but the followers bit is still 'active'...

isn't there a way that when they click on follow, my new site stats reflect that?

Lastly can you help me transfer the new subscribers over to my wordpress org site?

thank you so much for help.

  22. That happens from time to time. It is easy enough to fix, I will just transfer the subscribers over again.

  23. "Leftover" subscribers transferred to your new site.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

  24. hi josh, thank you for your time.
since last week there has been 9 more new subscribers to my old baconandjackrussells.com hosted at wordpress.com site.

Why is this happening? Will they still get to see the posts that i have, on their reader? Or it doesnt show? if they can still get it on the reader, then i might not need to let them know to use their email to subscribe to my new site.

i hate to trouble you everytime to transfer the subscribers over to my new site again... is there a solution to this?

Or is this a common issue for people who changed from wordpress com to org? that the wordpress com subscribers can still click on follow and i have to go back to check in?

can you help me transfer the 9 new subscribers over ?

my site is baconandjackrussells.com. Thank you so much.

    Thank you, let me know
    Michelle

  25. Once you have moved to a self-hosted site, your posts from .com will still appear int he WordPress reader. So if you have a particularly popular post that keeps being found by people searching for a topic or tag, you may see new followers.

Now, I have to admit that your situation is a bit more excessive than normal. I'll look into it and see if I can figure out where they are coming from. But the easiest solution may just be for you to let me know every once in a while if you get more than a few of them.

  26. I have moved those remaining subscribers.
