Transferring stats between blogs with different URLS, have only API key

    I am moving from one blog server to another and changing my URL at the same time. I would like to transfer all the stats history from wordpress.com stats to the new server. The old one was locked down tight for security purposes, so I'm not able to install JetPack there.
    I have the WordPress.com API key for the blog (retrieved it directly from the database), but I can't update the account because it was made by a coworker years ago, and that person no longer works here. I can't, (I don't think, unless someone here knows a trick), find out what email address is associated with that particular API key, so I can't even download the stats as CSV. If I have the API key, can someone at JetPack update the database so that the API corresponds to a different URL? I know an API key is like a password as well, so I can provide proof that I work for this the blog owner, if needed. Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi Bryan, thanks for the response.

    No, right now it's http://idealist.org/blog/es

    I believe that ups the difficulty :(

    It seems like it should be possible for someone, somewhere at WordPress HQ, to just change the DB that associates the URL with the API key, replacing the old URL with the new one. I actually have 3 of these to do.

    Thanks for confirming the blog URL. I can understand why this is a bit of a pickle.

    If your coworker used an email address with the same domain, perhaps you can check to see if you can find out which email address they might've used to create the WordPress.com account to connect that blog? (We would need to hear back from that username or email address to verify ownership.)

    Hi Bryan,
    THanks for your patience. I might have a username for you, but I'm not sure it's the right one. I got the credentials for it and can log in. Any ideas for how I can tell if it's the right one so I don't send your support team on a fishing expedition?

    No, that isn't the correct username.

    You can try the password reset tool with various email addresses to see if that helps you find your previous coworker's associated email address.

    Quick question: Did you update the URL from http://idealist.org/blog/es -> http://blog.es.idealist.org/ since your last reply?

    Yeah, I've been trying that password reset tool thing. No luck yet.

    Yes, I did change the URL—we had to go forward with the move. The old installation still exists, and the stats are still working, though of course it's not getting any new traffic. It's been moved to a public, but non-promoted URL: http://i3.blog.awbdev.org/blog/es/

    I didn't actually change anything in my WordPress.com account though...so how'd you know that? :)

    When I went to visit the first URL (to jog my memory), it redirected to the second one. :-)

    Hey folks, I'm still working on this but having a devil of a time even figuring out the right email address. I'll keep looking, but got any other ideas?

    Are you able to access the dashboard of your staging URL so you can deactivate Jetpack?

    Would you like me to switch the blog ID between the staging URL ( http://i3.blog.awbdev.org/blog/es/ ) and ( http://blog.es.idealist.org/ )?

    Bryan,

    Yeeesssssssss! That is such a relief!

    I think switching it over is the right thing to do, right? Before we do that: Is that going to step on the new stats I'm already collecting at ("http://blog.es.idealist.org"), or will Jetback look at them both together? It's only a couple of weeks worth but I'd love to keep them if I could.

    There isn't a way to merge both stats together — we can only switch the stats between the two blog URLs.

    Let me know how you'd like to proceed.

    Ok. Just a couple more questions, sorry. After that, they'll all still live under the "i3blogapikey" account? Or do I have to reconnect them to Jetpack somehow?

    No apology necessary, those are great questions! Since this case is slightly different than others (regarding two different WordPress.com accounts), let me double–check with our data team before I can confirm.

    Hi Mike,

    I've just switched the blog IDs with the URLs. In regards to the stats being accessed under your username (mikesayre), please disconnect Jetpack, log out of WP.com (important), then reconnect Jetpack.

    When you connect Jetpack again, it'll prompt you to log in and you can use the "mikesayre" account.

    In regards to switching the blog ID for these two sites:

    ...did you want me to switch those with the blog ID associated with the staging URLs?

    Also, for blog.fr.idealist.org, that blog ID is associated with another WordPress.com username. (Sorry!)

    To confirm, can you reply to this forum thread from that username as well?

    Sorry, I don't quite understand your question about staging URLs.

    The blog that used to be here:
    "http://idealist.org/blog/en"

    is now located here:
    "http://blog.en.idealist.org"

    And this one:
    "http://idealist.org/blog/fr"

    is now located here:
    "http://blog.fr.idealist.org"

    And I'd like to stats from the old URL's to now be connected to the new ones, same as we did with the first blog.

    And RE that username, I'll do that in a moment. Sorry for the confusion, I'm just trying to consolidate these under one shared admin so this sort of thing never happens again. :)

    Earlier in the thread, you stated:

    Yes, please. That's what you did for blog.es.idealist.org, right? That one worked perfectly.

    Sorry for the delay. I've just switched the blog IDs with those above URLs. As before, please disconnect Jetpack, log out of WP.com (important), then reconnect Jetpack.
