transferring to .org with a paid domain ?

  1. So, recently upgraded to .com . Here's my question.
Can I take my paid domain with me to .org and how do I even go about it?
Explanation in detail please! Many thanks

The blog I need help with is babbleq8.com.

  2. Once you get a web host, they will give you the DNS information for your account. You then go into your domain management here and change the DNS records to point to the new web host. It will take 24-72 hours for that change to propagate through all the world-wide internet nameservers and then you can put together the blog on the new web host. Typically the DNS changes will settle down after 12-24 hours, but sometimes it takes longer. It just depends on how busy the internet nameserver system.

You then if needed export your posts/pages/categories/comments/tags from here and import into the new blog.

As far as installation and all that on the new web host and any questions about that, you have to ask over at http://wordpress.ORG/support/ as that is where self-hosted blogs are supported.

  3. You will find more detail and a step by step walk though in this post Setting up a Self-Hosting WordPress.org Install
