Trouble uploading photos taken with instagram

  1. I recently started using instagram on my iPhone and had the photos sent directly to my email for easy blog posting (I wanted to do a slideshow, so using quick photo on the WP iPhone app doesn't really work for what I need). I downloaded the photos to my desktop and then uploaded them into the photo editor, but when they were finished uploading, the image did not appear in the photo editor and I was unable to edit any of the information (such as putting a caption). I clicked on where the photo normally is and it took me to a web page with the title of the photo, but no photo was actually shown. So I guess my question is, are we not allowed to upload instagram photos on our blog? I've uploaded quick photos in the past from instagram, but that isn't really what I want to do in this particular case. Any help would be more than appreciated.

The blog I need help with is dreamsescapemyeyesinphotos.wordpress.com.

  2. Hi there,
We cannot use instagram on free hosted WordPress.com blogs. However, you can post by email to send a photo right from your phone to your blog. http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-by-email/ Note also that An image gallery will display a set of thumbnail images attached to a particular post or page. When clicked, gallery images are displayed in a full-size carousel view. If you upload images using the Add Media button above the post/page editor, they will be attached automatically. http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/

Note: You can just use the Flickr Widget instead of the Instagram widget code. Works just fine.

  3. P.S. If you are using an iphone then for the iphone wordpress app, there's a forum here http://iphone.forums.wordpress.org/

  4. You can upload instagram photos, but the problem is DOWNLOADING them from Instagram. They, like Flickr used to, download only a placeholder image unless you examine the sourcecode for the page and find the actual image and copy that. This is what I had to do to get an instagram photo in my blog. Check your Instagram settings. And check the code they give you; you can't use Javascript, for eg.

  5. Thanks for the help, that stinks though. Guess I'll have to stop using instagram, that is just ridiculous.

  6. @raincoaster
    Thanks for expanding.

  7. Maybe you can answer this, is it instagram saying we can't, or WP? I'm concerned about who owns the copyright, if instagram is telling me I can't use my own photos the way I want to.

  8. You own the copyright, but it appears Instagram does not really make it easy to embed your photos and view them anywhere but instagram. Try Flickr, it's much more embed-friendly.

  9. Depending on how you have your instagram settings, it will save a copy of what you post on instagram onto your device. Then you can take it off your device and add it to your computer to add it to wordpress from there
