Twenty Eleven Theme Showcase Template Issues

  1. I'm using the Twenty Eleven theme and I would like to set up a page as shown here in the demo: http://twentyelevendemo.wordpress.com/showcase/
I cannot for the life of me get it to work. I set up a page, assigned it the showcase template format, selected that page as my static front page and then tagged my most recent post as a sticky post. The page shows up, but there is a blank area under "Featured Post" (which I would have thought should have been my most recent post "Sticky Buns" that I tagged as sticky) and then the page starts with my second most recent post. What I really want to do is to just have one or two recent posts show up on my homepage, instead of the infinite scroll, and I thought this would be a good workaround, except it isn't working.

The blog I need help with is sugartalk.wordpress.com.

  2. See this post by Panos on Twenty Eleven/Duster

  3. But you don't need it if the only reason was to avoid infinite scrolling. See here:

  4. Thanks to you both! Justpi...thankyouthankyouthankyou! I swear I've never noticed the infinite scrolling checkbox before (obviously) on the settings > reading page. I've spent a couple hours this afternoon trying to figure this out and all I had to do was uncheck a box! By the way, one thing I did figure out is that the latest post cannot be the featured post on the showcase template page (that isn't ever mentioned anywhere). When I tried it with a previous post, it all worked as it should, so that was tripping me up as well. But, no worries now since, with your help, I've accomplished what I really wanted to do. Phew.

  5. You're welcome.
    a) You hadn't noticed that option because 'normally' it's hidden: it only shows up when you add footer widgets. You see, WP doesn't like it when you don't like what you're supposed to like... See here for more:

    b) The latest post is a post like any other post: it can be the featured post.

  6. Interesting! I didn't think I was that oblivious, so I'm glad to know it was a hidden "feature." I'll try again on the whole showcase template thing in case I decide to use it. Not sure what I doing wrong, though, as I mentioned, my latest post (and the only one I tagged as sticky) wouldn't show up.
