TwentyEleven theme CSS customization options...

  1. Hi there,

    I am in the process of building this blog and would like to customise the TwentyEleven theme I've chosen... initially I just want to check that what I want to do is achievable with the custom pack before I buy it (but I would quite like to take advantage of the Black Friday offer!) after that I may need a bit of assistance with what I'm wanting to change in the CSS as I'm fairly new to this (however I used to typeset on Quark many years ago so I do think I'll be able to pick things up).

    Ok, here goes:

    1. Change custom header height - I've already checked the forums and I know this is possible in my theme, just listing here for my own benefit.

    2. Change colour of menu bar from black to custom colour - I have a print colour bible pdf with the palette I want to use for this and understand that I will need the corresponding hex colour codes.

    3. Change colour of text in page tabs on menu bar, again using the colours from the colour bible.

    4. Change colour of post titles, again using the palette from the colour bible.

    I'd like the menu bar in a soft stone grey, the text in a light aqua as the static, darker aqua as the hover and possibly the light and dark aqua or a light and dark grey for the post titles - are there any restrictions on the colour customization possibilities within this theme and if so should the colours I'm wanting to use be OK?

    Given that I'm using the light option on this theme I'm hoping it will work... I've changed the background to white already.

    Here's hoping!

    The blog I need help with is jennyblanc.wordpress.com.

  2. Yes, all of that is doable, but it depends on your ability to edit CSS.

  3. Thanks for the confirmation Raincaster, as to my CSS editing abilities I guess I'll be finding out my capabilities soon... and will probably be back in here picking people's brains sooner rather than later. Off to read up...

  4. I have the same questions as #2 & #4, I know they are possible, but any help with where exactly they are in the stylesheet? Once I have the portion of the code I know how to edit, but any guidance as to which parts edit those 2 things? Thanks so much.

  5. @brittneypearson, the site linked to your username, http://brittneypearson.wordpress.com/ , has been deleted. We need a link to the site you are talking about.

  6. 2. Change colour of menu bar from black to custom colour - I have a print colour bible pdf with the palette I want to use for this and understand that I will need the corresponding hex colour codes.

    Try this:

    #access {
        background: #84632E;
    }

    4. Change colour of post titles, again using the palette from the colour bible.

    To change the color of post titles in Twenty Eleven:

    .entry-title, .entry-title a {
        color: #84632E;
    }
  7. That worked!! Thank you so much - you're a life saver. One last thing I just realized, is there a way to change the font style/color of page titles?

  8. Yes you can. I assume you want it to be the same color as the post titles?

    h1.entry-title {<br /> color:#84632E !important;<br /> }

    Does that help?

  9. Yes!! Thanks so much!!!

  10. ONE last question - how can I make the header image fill up the entire space between the top line and the menu bar?

  11. This will get rid of the white space above the header image.

    #site-title, #site-description {
        display: none;
    }

    This will hide the search box if you wish to do that as well.

    #branding #searchform {
        display: none;
    }
  12. Perfect, thank you!! You're all wonderful.

  13. You are welcome.

  14. I would like to add my thanks to the members that have contributed to this thread, it looks like the only question I need to resolve now is no. 3 - How do I change the colour of the text for the page tabs in the menu bar, static and hover? and the static and hover colours for the post titles?...

    Like Brittany I know it's the hex colour codes for these that I need to alter for the changes to apply but I would like to know where to find them in the stylesheet!

    The blog was set to private but I guess it might need to be accessed to advise me of this so here is the link http://jennyblanc.wordpress.com
