twentyeleven theme personalization

  1. I would like to:
    1. delete the "leave a reply" widget down the pages ABOUT and CONTACTS of my blog.
    2. I would like that the left sidebar remains even when you click to read a post.
    3. I would like to add the botton "continue reading" at the end of a post in the Home page so that it is not shown the whole post in the Home page but only the first part (to show more than one in the Home).
    4. When I click on the post the width of the bar decreases compared to the width in the Home page (I modified the width with CSS code) and even the color of the title is black while in the home page is red (I changed that with CSS too; this happens only with the posts and not with the pages), I would like that the color and the width of the posts in the Home page and when you click them remain the same.
    5. I would like to set the same color for all the titles of the post (red and not black as it is now)

    Thank you very much for your help!

  2. 1. Open those pages in the editor, go to the screen options tab at upper right and activate the "discussion" module. Uncheck allow comments and allow trackbacks. Update the page.

    2. Not possible. Twenty Eleven does not show the sidebar on single post pages, and that is not something that can be fixed with CSS. If you want sidebars on the single post pages, you will need to choose a different theme.

    3. Add the read more tag when creating your posts.

    4. The titles on the home page are links. The titles on the single post pages are not links. That is the reason for the color difference. You can add the following to your CSS and then change the color as you desire, along with font size.

    .singular .entry-title {
        color: #C13240;
        font-size: 36px;
    }

    The actual width of the post area is the same on the single post page and the main blog page at around 583px. The reason it looks wider is that there is no sidebar on the single post pages and the content is centered.

    5.

    #content .entry-title, #content .entry-title a {
    color: #C13240;
    }
  3. Thank you very much for your help!!! I still have some problems with certain points:

    2. Do you know which themes allows me to always show the left sidebar on the posts pages?
    And, if I change theme, do all my personalizations (colors, header, changed width, widgets, etc.) remain?

    4. The width of the post area on the single post page is smaller than the width of the post area in the main blog page (I previously modified the width of the entire page and of the two parts with CSS). I would like to have the same width of the post area that I have in the Home page on the single post page. How can I do it?

    Moreover I have other questions:

    6. In the Blog Archive down on the left sidebar I can only see the name of the month (April 2013), but down that clicking on "April 2013" I would like to see the titles of the posts of that month (for each month). How can I do it?

    7. At the end of the post in the post page (and some of them in the Home page) I have the written: "This entry was posted in TRAVELS by ottaviagambardella. Bookmark the permalink. " in which the links are in red but I would like them to be in grey like the rest of the written.

    8. I have a Flickr Photos widget on the left sidebar, I would like that clicking on it, it opens a different web page and does not open replacing the blog page like it happens now. Is this possible?

    9. I added a RSS - Posts button in the left sidebar, but I'm not sure if it works, is that a RSS feed?

    10. Under the post title appears the written with the date, for example "Posted on 25 April 2013", I would like the date not to be a link (right now it is a link and you can click on the date) so just written in black. How can I do it?

    THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ALL YOUR KIND HELP!!!!

  4. One last question:

    11. Do I have a maximum memory storage for the blog or not? Is it possible to upload photos from flickr? (so that the photos are linked to a flickr page, that I would make private in this case)

    THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

  5. This is sooo many questions! We can answer questions about CSS here, but we really should be helping direct you to learning tools or to other resources if your questions add up to in-depth design work. Also, it looks like some of your questions have been duplicates. Please be patient! I will go through all of the questions above to see what I can do to help, but please be mindful of taking advantage of our online support resources and documentation as well as CSS tutorials (which would be a very, very good place to start). You should take time to research the issues before posting and make sure to always include an example link whenever possible (especially for questions about specific types of pages). This is a great tutorial to start with, for example.

  6. 2. Do you know which themes allows me to always show the left sidebar on the posts pages?

    We have a list of themes that have a left sidebar, but there isn't a list split out that indicates when that sidebar might be hidden on single posts or pages. Also, many themes have configurable theme options and it's more common to show the sidebar than to hide it.
    http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/left-sidebar/

  7. And, if I change theme, do all my personalizations (colors, header, changed width, widgets, etc.) remain?

    All the personalizations will still be there, but some things may be move depending on which themes you are switching between.

    The widgets will stay, but some may be moved to the "Inactive Widgets" area on the Appearance → Widgets page.

    Colors and custom header should be saved per theme.

    Custom CSS is moved to a revision.

    One way to try to avoid changes like thees would be to use the live previews linked on the Apperance → Themes page. You won't be able to preview various different widget configurations, but it will work for most previewing needs, and you can even use the colors, fonts, CSS, etc. tools in live previews.

  8. 4. The width of the post area on the single post page is smaller than the width of the post area in the main blog page (I previously modified the width of the entire page and of the two parts with CSS). I would like to have the same width of the post area that I have in the Home page on the single post page. How can I do it?

    See http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/increase-the-width-of-the-layout?replies=6#post-1249508

  9. 6. In the Blog Archive down on the left sidebar I can only see the name of the month (April 2013), but down that clicking on "April 2013" I would like to see the titles of the posts of that month (for each month). How can I do it?

    Try the archives shortcode:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/archives-shortcode/

  10. 7. At the end of the post in the post page (and some of them in the Home page) I have the written: "This entry was posted in TRAVELS by ottaviagambardella. Bookmark the permalink. " in which the links are in red but I would like them to be in grey like the rest of the written.

    Definitely try the Appearance → Themes → Customize → Colors panel first for this sort of thing.

  11. 8. I have a Flickr Photos widget on the left sidebar, I would like that clicking on it, it opens a different web page and does not open replacing the blog page like it happens now. Is this possible?

    If there's not an option for that in the widget settings, then there's not a way to change it without modifying the underlying HTML or PHP, and that's not an option that's offered here at WordPress.com.

    Also see http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/flickr-widget-twentyeleven-theme?replies=3#post-1244977

  12. 9. I added a RSS - Posts button in the left sidebar, but I'm not sure if it works, is that a RSS feed?

    I don't see that. However, you can find out more about what an RSS feed is by checking out this help page:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/feeds/

  13. 10. Under the post title appears the written with the date, for example "Posted on 25 April 2013", I would like the date not to be a link (right now it is a link and you can click on the date) so just written in black. How can I do it?

    Changing functionality like links is not a CSS editing option. To get access to the underlying code and full control of all of those sorts of things, you would need to switch to a WordPress.org setup.

  14. 11. Do I have a maximum memory storage for the blog or not? Is it possible to upload photos from flickr? (so that the photos are linked to a flickr page, that I would make private in this case)

    See http://en.support.wordpress.com/space-upgrade/

    It's possible to insert an image from the web (I think that's what you mean), check out this page for details:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/#insert-an-image-from-the-web

  15. Please do check out our documentation at http://en.support.wordpress.com/ because lots of your questions will already have been answered there.

    How do I separate a secondary site from the primary site making both stand alone?

  17. Go to http://wordpress.com/#!/my-blogs/ and click the "create another blog" link on the left.

  18. Thank you so much for your help!!!!!!!!!!
